Does anyone have any secrets to cleaning the urine marks off the plastic cage bottoms???  I have finally gotten my NIC cages built and was trying to get my old cages cleaned up to donate to the bunny shelter.  I’m sure the shelter could care less about some stains, but I’m kind of anal that way and would like to know they are as clean as possible!!!!!

Oh, good for you! Vinegar+water and elbow grease is commonly recommended. I use a product called Scalex for those deposits though. It’s a calcium, lime descaler. I dissolve it in hot water, por it in litterbox and let it soak, rinse then wash out with vinegar and water.

Who, may I ask, is that in your avatar?!!!!!!!!

I use straight vinegar if I am able to let the plastic bin or litterpan sit.  You would not believe what straight vinegar will do if it can sit for awhile- even up to a couple of hours.  (It will not damage the plastic if soaked longer).

I would be hesitant to use a chemical lime, calcium remover if it has a chemical smell unless you can not clean it any other way.

But vinegar works great on rabbit pee, cat litterboxes and when I had hamsters I would use vinegar to soak whatever portion of the plastic cage that had the buildup and it would remove ALL the buildup.  Sometimes you need to scrub a little to get into the layers that have built up- but what I once thought was not able to be cleaned well at all- can be just about 100% removed depending on the plastic and if there are any deep grooves or scratches.

I let my stuff sit in vinegar, baking soda and water for a while. Then rinse, scrub with hot water, rinse some more. Always works for me, but I really dont care much as long as its clean, small stains dont bug me.
