I remember the other day I was petting Gracie and I petted her by her eye and my fingers got all wet.  Her eyes always have sleepy dirt in the front corners.  I think maybe she has blocked tear ducks.  So I thought maybe it was just wet sleepy dirt.  Today I notcied she had clear discharge around by the corner and above a bit.  My husband thought maybe Archie was licking her…which he does clean off her eyes.  I cleaned her eye with a warm cotton ball a while ago and I think I have to do it again before I go to bed.  I tried to take a picture but the dumb camera wouldn’t focus right.

Any advice?  Probably guessing I should call the vet up tomorrow.    Should I mention that Archie’s nose has been running?  When I told the vet she said just to monitor it because she said there wasn’t nothing in there and it wasn’t white and sticky so she said it’s probably viral like a cold and to watch him if the mucus gets sticky then it’ll be viral.  So I don’t think her eye has anything to do with his nose.

EDIT: This morning I checked on her eye again to make sure and she still had the discharge.  Poor girl!

We went to the vet this morning and she checked her eye for any scratches and looked at her teeth.  She said there’s a suspect tooth in the back but she can’t see it that well.  She gave me ointment to put on her eye twice a day for a week and said if it doesn’t get any better in a week or gets worse then to call them and they’ll have to sedate her to check her back teeth.  She said sometimes there can be an absessed but since I saw this early then they can try to treat it.  She did good with her first treatment with the vet because she was scared but hopefully she’ll be good for me when I try to put it in.

Good for you taking her right in. The smart thing to do. I have 3 buns and 2 have alot of eye issues. Although they are treated for basically the same issue – red eye, conjuntivitis (spelled wrong I’m sure), discharge that can get really really bad, but they have different meds for each. I know that Baby has issues with hay. Certain hay’s irrated her eyes so I’ve learned to keep the hay as far away from where she sleeps as I can. Same for Dino but he takes a human eye drop that works for him. Good luck and keep us posted.

Gracie has been so good with her ointment!  They were both mad at me yesterday coming home from the vet and took awhile to eat their greens, but they’re a lot better today.  She jumped a little last night but today she just sat there.

generally, eye gunk is measured in badness by color. since gracie’s is clear, there probably isn’t an infection or anything. good luck with the ointment!

She always gets more junk in her eye than Archie but this is unusual for her eye to be all wet like that.  Let you guys know in a week if the ointment works.  *crosses fingers*
