I was wondering if it would be okay to take Sunny outside in the snow? She has a leash, and wouldn’t be out long. I just want to take her out there for a small walk in the backyard.

        Thanks

Some bunnies seem to have tons of fun in the snow, others could care less. I guess its up to Sunny

Yeahhh Sunny didn’t care. Usually if there was nice warm grass, she would’ve ran around like a mad woman. Snow on the other hand, she sat there. Then we took her in and got all the snow off, warmed her up w/ a blow dryer on low.

We have had members who have bunnies that love to go out in the snow. (if you have ONLY a neck leash – then I would not use that at all)
With harnesses though those may not be as dangerous as the neck leash, but  I still feel compelled to warn members  about some previous issues that other members have had with harnesses so you can be fully prepared and be extra careful if you decide to use the harness

ETA:  One of our members (Wendyzski?) actually brought in snow and put it in the bathtub and her bunny had a fun time with that.  I think there is a photos somewhere of that. I’ll add it if I can find it.

Okay found it – but it wasn’t in a bathtub – looks like her bunny is having a blast!

We just got a ton of snow and put some in the bottom of Archie’s old cage for them to explore….yeah none of them liked it. I made a snowball and took it to them and Gracie sunk her teeth in it and then shook her head like she had brain freeze and then continued to slowly eat it. Sandy did nothing with it. And Archie (for the first time) boxed and smacked it out of my hand! LOL! Guess we won’t be doing anymore snow again.
I love the harness (well they don’t always love it) but in addition it being safer, they look so styling in it and cute!

                  Yep = that’s my Pepper!

First I brought in a brownie pan with some snow in it, to see what she’d do.  She sniffed it and then went NUTS digging it while I laughed hysterically.  So the next big storm I brought a bunch in from the porch and dumped it on a cheap rug in the kitchen.  She loved it, but eventually got cold and left the room.  So I dumped the rug off the porch railing and swept the hels-melted snow out the back door.  Amusingly enough, she came back about half an hour later and was quite confused because the snow was gone.

The next winter I took her out in the snow on her harness.  She hopped about a foot, then ran back to the door and gave me such a look – “Are you insane, woman?  It’s COLD out here!”

A few days ago, I was taking out the trash and she hopped out the back door on to the deck.  Again she hopped about a foot, then THUMPED and ran back inside.  Because clearly the cold and wet was entirely my fault.

So snow is fun as long as it comes inside where it is properly warm.  Here endeth the lesson.

Hehe Pepper looks so much like Comet! And Otto, another binkybun! That’s such a cute picture. We took Chubs out in the snow and he loved it! Dived right in to these huge piles of it! Pretty comical but I couldn’t let him stay out too long since it was cold!

BB, I’d swear I saw someone with a bathtub of snow for their bunnies. No idea who if it wasn’t you, Wendyzski. Maybe you showed us a pix of the first tub you tried?

I almost brought in snow for my 2 last night, but it had already started to melt and was very very wet. Maybe next time…

I tried this when we first talked about it a few years ago and my bunnies hated the snow. Sniffed and ran away.

Rabbitpam- I remember someone filling their bathtub with snow too but for the life of me cant remember who it was.

I did a search for Bathtub Snow and found this post with pix from Katnip.

I think this is the one we’re remembering from last winter.

Yeah- last year I waited until we got a good amount of clean fluffy snow and then let the bunnies each have their turn in the snow!  None of them really dug much in the snow as I recall- but Penny who was the last to “play” in the snow sure had fun peeing in the snow since Cotton and Schroeder and been in there first!

And what is nice about the bathtub thiing- when the snow melts- it just goes down the drain- and the bunnies do have the option of hopping out of the tub if the hate it too much.

I will probably have to put socks on both of Griffins ears and then use a scrunchie to keep them out of the snow- don’t want his big ol ears getting cold.  But his ears do really kick out heat- there has been a couple times when I have been holding him that I thought he peed on me because of the warm feeling- but it was from his ear being next to me.  So maybe the “ear socks” are more for the snows protection than Griffs ears!

I was going to suggest the snow in the bathtub! I’ve seen a few members with buns and snow in their tubs
I took Noot out last spring and he was not impressed with snow. I haven’t tried Rupert or Kahlua-mostly it’s insanely too cold for that-it would be 45C temperature difference so we really couldn’t-may try in the spring though-I see so many buns enjoying it
