As I’ve said in a previous post, Hubs and I are going to be away from May 7th-15th, so the boys will be staying with a breeder for that week. We got a call today from the bonder we’ve been anxious to get them into, that she is available to bond them at the end of May. How is this going to work with their trip to a breeder at the start of the month? Should I let her know to keep their cages together and swap their stuff that way nothing changes? Will going to the breeder affect the work I’ve done here, making the bonder’s work more difficult? Will being in the same space as 21 other bunnies (all unaltered) affect anything with them (I’m assuming it will)? How can I help make this as smooth of a process as possible for them? Should I just let the bonder start from scratch?

I wanted be helpful, as well as say congrats on the long awaited bonding adventure, but after reading your questions…I’ll just say congrats . Hopefully STG, DanaNM, or others will have some ideas.

hahaha thanks Luna! Fingers crossed it’ll be an easy bond! After all they’ve been side by side for about a year now. Those were exactly the people I was hoping would chime in, and Mikey’s + S&L’s inputs would be great too. Any seasoned pro

I think you could ask the breeder to swap them between cages every day, but I do think smelling all the other bunnies will be quite confusing anyway. I think since they’ve been near each other for so long, once you get them back at home and back in their normal routine, they’ll get straight back to where they were.

So in short, it wouldn’t harm anything to ask the breeder to swap them, but I also think there’s so much else going on it probably won’t do much, but also, a week off won’t do any harm!

I’m so excited about them going to the bonder!

That’s good to know! I just don’t want them to “forget” each other I guess? I guess if they can still see each other they’d be fine? They act fine whenever I bring Bombur home from a vet appointment, so I guess this wouldn’t be much different?

How exciting, soon you’ll have a gorgeous bonded pair

I think the scents of the other bunnies at the breeder will probably be a bit confusing but I think it would still be beneficial to swap the boy’s cages It might even help them feel a little more comfortable in their temporary environment as they are already somewhat familiar with each other’s scent.

Thanks you two!! It would be oh so nice to watch them cuddle again. Except cuddling when they were 8-11 weeks old was Bombur plopping his butt on Asriel’s face and Asriel look pissy. But to be fair, Az’s eye markings make him look permanently angry xD
