        Hi guys,

Sorry I feel like I’ve been posting up a storm and I’m not sure if this question is in the right place. I use 50/50 vinegar and water to clean my buns’ pen, but we live up in the foothills and have ant problems in the summertime. Since we got the buns’ it’s a bit worse because of food. Same happened when we had a dog. Can you guys think of any natural ant traps that I can make that wouldn’t be harmful to the buns’ health? Vinegar and water does the trick on the floor so I am cleaning the floor literally everyday to help keep them out of their pen, but I’m not going to spray any harmful chemicals.

        Thanks in advance!

We have tons of ants where I live, I use diatomaceous earth (food grade).

It’s a bit messy, but I sprinkle it around any areas where the ants are coming in and it works really well! It’s safe to use around pets.

Thank you so much! I’m assuming you use it indoors? I’ll order some and try it the ants are driving me crazy! They’re hiding under the fleece beside the mat in their pen. It’s so frustrating.

Yes, indoors! I’ve even sprinkled a border of it around their condo when the ants have gotten really bad. Ours tend to go for water so they were swarming around the buns’ water bowl at one point.

I’ve purchased mine on amazon, just be sure to get “food grade” not pool grade! Apparently people put it in livestock feed as a dewormer, and you can also use it to treat fleas in dog beds, etc.

Diatomaceous earth is safe and non-toxic. I would avoid creating a situation where the powder could be directly inhaled though. It can irritate the lungs.

Yes, very good point about inhalation and dust!
