My buns cage has several levels of boards covered in carpet padding and blue jean material.  Taking the material off an swapping it would be a HUGE deal.  Occasionally Snickers will get a little poop or pee (which turns white) on the different levels.  What is the best way to clean this off without taking the material off the shelves?

Thanks so much for your suggestions!!!

Unsure of cleaning, but does the pee always dry white and is it a bit powdery?

Yes, on the blue jean material it dries white.  All my buns have had this in the past.  Dark brown on the litter, white on blue jean material.  Any suggestions for cleaning it?

Given the white stains are calcium/minerals, I’m pretty sure they have some chemical cleaners that will remove the stains, or a good hard washing will.

Just adding in that poop shouldnt stain. Rabbit poop should crumble and can be brushed or vaccumed off if its crumbled. If its not crumbled, its hard and can be picked up with your hands. If poop is staining, your rabbit really needs to see a vet as that is a sign of health concern.

If you have poop stains, please keep a close eye on the buns and make an appointment with your vet if recurrent wet poop is confirmed.

As for pee and pee stains, you should be able to remove them by pressing and dabbing with a barely wet towel to take out the calcium residual while keeping the jeans dry. Even if bothersome I’d keep anyways two sets of fabric so that you can periodically switch them and deep clean the dirty one to avoid dirt build up.

It’s possible the poop stains are from cecal poops sitting on the fabric before your rabbit eats them. My bunnies do 90% of their poops in the litter tray, my girl Luna does all her cecal poops upstairs and her favourite place ends up very stained because they sit on the fleece before she eats them and I think hers are a little juicy

You could try spraying the jeans with a white vinegar and water mix, get it quite soggy, let it sit for a bit and then dab it with a dry rag to absorb excess moisture before wetting it down with plain water and dabbing it dry again. Don’t rub it as it’s likely you’ll only spread the stain. Throwing it in the wash would be easier but if it’s tough to remove I can see why that would be a problem.

I would also suggest putting fleeces or something easy to remove on top of the material, then you could just throw that in the wash, and swap it for a new one. I have a ridiculous number of fleeces, and a pile of them by the washing machine :/
