Well I’ve noticed Layla isn’t a huge hay eater.  So far I’ve just tried Timothy but I hesitate to buy more until what she has is gone due to my increasingly small apartment.  Anyway…  I read on the nutrition page that it helps if you put hay in places they have to forage a little for it so I had an idea.  I took the cardboard rolls that I give her to chew on anyway, and I pushed them through the holes of her NIC cage… then I stuffed them with hay!  I put them in several places around her cage and she’ll just gobble that hay up…and leave that in the hay trap thing-a-ma-jig completely untouched.  Just thought I’d share!

Great idea! I’ll have to keep that in mind for other snooty hay eaters.

By the way: Looks like you are an extreme night-owl too! Unless you get up early.

Well I picked up a lot of 3rd shifts and I’m doing that right now…  so I would much rather be sleeping right now!  Ha.

i noticed with Meadow (who was only about 4 months when i got her) that she didn’t really pick up the hay habit until she was older and i had limited her pellet intake. at this age, Layla has more pellets, so that might be a reason. she can also have handfuls of alfalfa, since she’s a growing girl (up to 7 months) but when it comes to other types of hay, it’s best to give it along with the timothy. so two handfuls of tim hay, one of a special mix, or something like that…
