        Hi guys!

        Tonight I will be picking up the beautiful bun I’ve been posting about recently. I’ve done a ton of research but I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for me as a new bunny owner or about how to navigate these next few weeks!

        I’m so excited but also so SO nervous!

        Thanks so much guys!

            Hey, I want to congratulate you. I am by no means an expert with buns, in fact I know very little. But I wanted to say just maybe don’t rush your bun. Give him (or her 🙂 their space and let them come to you. Because I know you might be eager to bond, and hopefully they bond with you very quickly 🙂 But don’t rush it and let the bun go at their pace.

            • Another thing I’d found is that for litter, well rabbit litter can be really expensive. I had switched to kiln dried horse stall pine pellets. They sell them at tractor supply and they are about $6 or $7 for 40 lbs! It took my bun about 3 months to go through that to be honest, vs., packages of carefresh which took her about 2-3 weeks probably. I really loved those pellets and they smell great, but they aggravate my asthma really bad so I had to stop using them. So fyi they are really dusty. I emailed the house rabbit society a long time ago to verify these were safe to use and they said the kiln dried ones are. (I know links aren’t allowed to products, so just google  ‘kiln dried hose stall pine pellets’, you’ll find results. Actually I will post the link after all, sorry to do so, I just want to make sure there’s no confusion about the type of product I’m recommending, because I don’t want to accidentally recommend something damaging to a bunny. Hopefully the mods can do their magic and delete the thread but include the relevant info? I wanted to make sure the right product was seen (Edited by Wick – 🙂 Did it! Store link removed and product information added below).

              Tractor Supply Pine Pellet Stall Bedding, 40 lb: “Tractor Supply Pine Pellet Stall Bedding will save you time, storage space and money. Made from environmentally friendly, all natural pine, our Pine Pellet Stall Bedding provides a comfortable sterile bedding layer, while neutralizing odor and absorbing moisture on contact. Your stall will be clean, dry and odor free. There will also be a reduction in the volume of waste materials generated – up to 50%, creating a higher quality compost product. Equine Fresh lasts much longer in the stall so that you can enjoy the time saved with your horse.”

            • This list the House Rabbit Society maintains of rabbit savvy vets. There are vets probably that don’t appear on this list too. Just when you are looking for a vet, make sure they have experience with rabbits. I found a great vet using this list! https://rabbit.org/vet-listings/

            Good luck and I hope you have a wonderful first day together 😀

              That’s so wonderful! Congrats!

              Aside from the basics which I’m sure you’ve read about, I think the main things with new buns are what bunny proofing you missed (lol), how their box habits are, and how outgoing they are right off the bat. Sounds like your girl is pretty outgoing, so she might want lots of pets right away, but if not don’t worry and just give her some space. I like to play hard to get with new bunnies. 😉 Just feed them and try not to bother them while they are penned. Then when they are out for roam time let them approach you.

              If her box habits need work, restricting the space at first can help, esp for the first few days, so she can get “organized”. She will also let you know where you need to do more bunny proofing (haha), so def supervise closely during free-roam time at first!

              You have a name picked out yet? My vote is Jamocha! (After the Jamoca Almond Fudge ice cream from Baskin Robbins) 😀

                WOOHOO! 😀 I have the jitters for you! So exciting! YAY! 🙂

                I love that name, Dana! 🙂  Hmmm, for some more how about Molly, Maple, Calico, Annie, Minnie, or Holly?

                When you get her, you’ll post more pictures, right? 😛 She is beautiful!

                  Thank you!

                  @borya01

                  Thanks! I’ll definitely make sure we go at  her pace. Definitely wouldn’t want to rush her.

                  Thanks for the list! I’ve actually printed out a couple I’ve found just to make life easier.

                  Those types of pellets are actually what I was planning on using and that’s also what the rescue uses.

                  Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find any vets within 3 hours of me on the list :-(. Luckily the rescue knows of some good ones around.

                    Thank you!

                    Okie dokie! Her box habits have improved a ton since her spay the rescue said. Only a bit of poops out of the box. I of course don’t expect her to be perfect at first.

                    Ill definitely supervise closely at first to make sure everything is safe for her.

                    She actually already has a name. Her name is Esther. I was considering changing it but she came to the rescue with it so she’s had it for quite a while and I’d feel weird changing it.

                    @HipHopBunny

                    Thanks!

                    Those are cute names! I like the name maple. Maybe for a future bun 😉

                    Of course there will be pictures! I know how much that matters to you guys around here lol. Especially you HipHopBunny!

                      Esther is a very cute name for a elegant older lady bun 🙂  I love her curly eyelashes and whiskers <3

                      I know what you mean, my most recent three buns kept their shelter names because they just had them so long and they suited them. Doesn’t stop me from giving them nicknames though!

                        Her whiskers an eyelashes are totally adorable.

                        Yeah. I can’t imagine looking at her face and thinking another name. She’s been at the rescue for about 4 months and I’ve been following them the whole time she’s been there.

                          Esther is a beautiful name! 😀 Very graceful, strong, and sweet. 😉

                          I don’t know who on earth you could be talking about who has an obsession with pictures! 😮 (Mmmm, I know, maybe Hazel, and PrinceDorian 😉 )  Love ya guys! 😆

                            Bu: Congrats, I’m excited for you! She’s a beauty, love the name! 🙂

                              Thank you! It’s funny, she looks huge in pictures but she’s actually so little compared to them in real life!

                                  She’s only about 5/6 pounds! I thought she was a lot bigger!

                                      My bad, I shouldn’t have asked. At least I didn’t ask about her age! 😉
