…Can’t….Breath…Too…Excited….
Ok, so i was browsing some free classifieds and I saw an add for a horse for lease, an affordable price, an area to ride is included; Vet and ferrier taken care of…
I’m calling her in one hour (on my lunch break) and I’m having a heart attack that I won’t be able to lease for some reason (already leased etc)….OOOHHH I want to lease so bad, I haven’t ridden in almost ten years and I want to again sooo bad and I can totally swing the cost…mabye…who needs food?
Wish me luck guys! I will post after lunch to let you know how it went!! *shaking*
Good luck!
*Gasp*
GOOD LUCK! if i were you i’d be taking a "bathroom break" about 2 hours ago and huddling with my cell in the bathroom… lol…
wow good deal! very exciting… definitely post back about how you make out =)
29 minutes….haha
Now I am wondering if I *really* need that victoria secret order (just clothes ) that I was going to put through this evening…maybe I should save the moola for horse stuff !!!
oo how exciting – let us know how it goes!
Awesome! I hope you have good luck!!! Horses are almost as great as bunnies! I leased horses for years before finally getting my own and it was always great fun!
Here’s a pic of my horsie I have now
.
any word yet, K&K?
good luck!!
Arrgghhh!
I phoned and there was no answer-AND no voicemail/answering machine??? It’s a country number and most people around here who live out in the country don’t (for whatever reason) have voicemail….So now I have to sit on the edge of my set for four more hours!!!
(I have left my cell phone on -(don’t tell-hehe)-in case they have call id and phone me back)
*pant* *gasp*
What a stressful day!! Now I am itching to go ride!!!
puffy tail that is a GORGEOUS horse!!!
geez. i couldn’t imagine not having voicemail or an answering machine… esp. if you’re placing ads where people will be calling… keeping my fingers crossed for you… look on the bright side… i doubt any other interested people can get ahold of them either… lol.
Thanks…. *edge of my chair edge of my chair *
Ok Update
She phoned (I couldn’t answer my cell since I am in an open office) and left a message…sounds promising…I’m phoning her back in half an hour on break (Ok, technically I could phone now but i just can’t make personal calls at work…hanging in a bunny forum while at work is no problem though…. )
(Just wondering if there is some kind of reward for ‘the most times you replied to your own post" )
Ok, I got ahold of her and I am going to see horsey tonight!!!! Yeah!!!
Weirdest thing, i phoned her on the phone from the lunch room rather then my cell phone and she answered the phone "travis…?" …turns out her husband is great friends with a guy who I work with….Yeh, I guess Canadian cities *really are* that small hehehehe
What sort of horse is it?
Thuroughbred, 16.1 hh, completely well trained, does fences and flat, indoor arena, trainer on site if you want lessons *pant pant*
So excited!!!
very exciting! do you like jumping?
Oh man that’s wonderful!!! I know it’ll be great to get back into it. I myself haven’t been in about oh, 10 years or so as well. Too bad you aren’t closer by! I have a roping saddle and some blankets I’m needing to sell off. I would have given you a good deal too! So, do you ride western, english or both? Oh man trainer on site too! Woohoo! Sounds real promising, cancel that Victoria’s Secret order!!!! You HAVE to get pictures.
And sweet horse LittlePuffyTail!! Looks like great demeanor and you two make a great match!
Update!!!
I saw the horse (Jimbo) last night-he is totally gorgeous, and has THE SWEETEST demeanour!! Such a teddy bear! He’s black with some brown areas so I guess he’s technically a brown horse, but just lovely! I am going to hop on him Wednesday evening (I can’t wait-seriously I think I am going to barf!!) and then sign the contract etc.!! Yeah!!
The barn is about ten minutes from my parents house and maybe twenty five from mine; It seems like it’s going to be great!!
Babybunsmom-yes, I love jumping. I showed in the hunter ring years ago when I rode. I really am not competative and am very shy mostly so I don’t really like showing. But I looove jumping!
Scarlet-I ‘ride’ english-as much as you can ride english when you don’t ride hehe. I started out on a western saddle and rode that for a while, but I am a fan of the faster gate and jumping fences so I went to english (although anyone who ropes or barrel races does a fast gait heheh) That’s really neat that you roped!
Ok, here’s a little experience I will share with you since we have some horse lovers here…In Kelowna (British Columbia, Canada) a few years ago on vacation I went *horse-back swimming* !!! Yes-I know! hehe.. It was awesome-first we went for a trail ride and then we rode down to the lake, put on our suits and you hop on the horse that swims, they lead him for a swim-it was an experience I’ll never forget…Apparently it’s the only place in the world you can do it!
i’ve ridden a horse… i think twice… lol. but i had fun when i did. i’m happy to hear things are going as planned! we’ll get pics on Wed?
Yaaaaay! I leased and took lessons as a kid – even was an assistant counselor at riding camp – till my hay allergy and my asthma surfaced the same summer
Is Jimbo kept outside? Could be that the brown patches are where the sun faded the black out. I had a black horse named Emily and when she was out in the pasture all the time under the sun she got faded, brown patches.
Ah, I rode English too, I also loved the jumps! It was just a great feeling just sailing over them. I wasn’t find of showing either so I bascially just did it for pleasure. (I am too pretty shy in front of crowds) I mostly rode western and yes, in fact I was a pretty good barrel racer. I did not get the knack of roping but it was just a fun thing to try out.
I cannot tell you how happy I am that this is going to work out for you! I am so excited! You so better have pictures and a full report of your "first ride" and how sore your bum is and how your thighs are after posting the proper english way!
That is such a neat experience with the swimming! I have never neard of that before. Wow, too cool.
Anyway, I think I better go get my bum in the kitchen to prepare for the Thanksgiving feast tomorrow! I’ve baked 2 pumpkin pies and a cake, made cranberry sauce, sliced bread to dry for stuffing & seasoned it and now I’ve got to make the table. That leaves more time for the candied yams and turkey tomorrow.
That’s great you had the opportunity Beka and Wendyzki (except for the asthma of course-bummer)!
Ok, report of first ride
Yes, I can’t walk hahah… I did a flat class last night on him, so I could try him out but have some instruction.
So, first the pain-hahah…My abs (incredibly) hurt sooo bad, my thighs are OK, but my butt, definitely sore as we did some sitting trott and he moves very fast haha..Definitely stiff today!
He was a great ride, moves very fast like I said. The instructor said she’s been on him and he’s very responsive; So with some work *on me* this should go very well!
I seriously can’t believe what a nice disposition he has! I think we are doing the lease stuff this evening? But I am not sure I am calling her when I get home _I can’t wait!!
I will post pics but, after I am leasing for sure, I thought it might be a bit goofy to show up to ‘try’ him out and be taking lots of pics hehe…that’s just shy ol me though!
yay! how exciting
hope the lease stuff goes smoothly & you get to start working out the ‘kinks’. a good friend of mine evented but it’s been a while since she retired – i’m a little rusty on all the terms. definitely remember hearing how great a work out she gots from it. can’t wait to see pics!
Kokanee&Kahlua I’ll forgive ya! I totally understand and definately wait until the lease is official. He sounds like a sweetheart and a dream to ride! You’ll have a washboard stomach and buns of steel before you know it!
Wow what a thrilling thread! Sometimes on long threads if I get there late, I read the first, a few answers in the middle, and then the last couple, but this one was so exciting because you are doing something I wish I could do. I love horses, but really have not had that many experiences. I had horse camp when I was a kid, and took lessons here and there, but as I grew older, I didn’t keep up with it.
Over the summer though, my husband and I did take did take a trail CLIFF ride (it was holy scary macaroni!!!!!) through parts of the Emmigrant Wilderness. (only hikers and horseriders allowed) Anyhoo – my husband had little experience, (yeah, genious move to take this ride then) and he really didn’t control his horse, sooo his horse would stop to graze and then RUN full blast over the rocky path, up and down the cliffs to catch up. I was seriously freaked out that he was going to take a dive off the horse down the cliff. And unfortunately no one was allowed to be behind the horse, because that horse didn’t like any horses behind her, and would kick. So, I would always wait for him and then help push him to push his horse. Let’s just say – stressful trail ride. But even through all that, I lstill loved it.
Kokanee&Kahlua, so keep us updated.
Aww…Binky sounds like a fun but scary experience! I am comfortable on horses but trail riding in the mountains still scares me a little! I remember one I took that had all kinds of very steep hills -very scary!!
Ok, so mini update (no pics….soon!!) I signed the lease on jimbo so I now officially half own a horse WOOHOO!! I went out on Sunday to visit him and introduce him to my boyfriend. I was going to get boots and ride on Monday but had the whole vet thing with Kokanee (she is doing WWAAY better btw) so I got my boots last night and I am going riding strait after work (they have lessons at around six thirty so I am going to ride before them). I’m very excited! I promise to bring my camera on my next trip to the barn (maybe friday!)
Yay! I hope you had a great riding lesson!
Yay! I hope you had a great riding lesson!
Thanks Scarlet! I had a good ride WHOOO that horse moves! I think I am going to lunge him next time, because I was just doing walk trott with him while we get aquainted…and he decided to canter and was bucking the whole time (yee-haw! wait…I haven’t ridden in years slow down horsey) anyways we were totally out of control and he takes the bit in his teeth so it’s just impossible to slow him down….sigh…Yes so I think I am going to lunge him next time first so he can get some of spit-n-vinegar out first!
YEEHAW!! Wait, that is only appropriate for Western riding, not English right? Oh my, how funny (sorry) but I’m giggling my face off right now. Wow, bucking the whole time? What on earth? Oh wait you did say he’s a thoroughbred so he’s hot blooded. So, that would make sense. I had a blue roan like that, she was a pain but gorgeous! Lunging would definately be a good idea before hand as it sounds like he hasn’t been ridden in a while either (hence the leasing). Oh he likes to chomp the bit huh? You might want to try another kind, what kind of bit are you using (or will the owners let you)? And hey, where are the pictures!!!!??? LOL
Heheh…Ok I totally forgot my camera today and I go to the barn strait from work, but i plan to go sat and sun so I *will* have pics on Monday.
Yeah, he takes the bit and really gets hot with it, but he’s soo sensitive! I’m just riding with a standard snaffle, the girl I’m leasing from is concerned about his mouth being soft…The instructor wants me to control his gait with my seat (which is floppy from disuse haha) rather then reining him in;
Actually when I pull to try to slow him down some he just goes faster…it’s quite the challenge!!
Oh I see. Well you two just need to get acquainted a bit more and it sounds like he’s just excited to finally be out and about, rather than cooped up in a stall. Oh you so tease with the pictures! You need that buns of steel video!
Oh my goodness I super apologize for not doing pics earlier (as promised hehe) I took them a couple weeks ago and I finally convinced the BF to load them on photobucket for me!!
So here is Jimbo, my horsey!!

he’s verrry handsome! how often are you riding now?
I am going about three times a week…I would love to go more often but that seems to be as much as I can squeeze in with the barn hours and work and spoiling my bunny girls
Awe what a sweetheart! He looks like he is part morgan horse/throughbred. Great eyes and face, he must be so gentle.
I was a horse mad child and my room was full of pictures, I spent most weekends riding.
What a handsome dude.
Hey Scarlet thanks!! He is a thuroughbred cross, but we weren’t sure what he was crossed with! He does look a little morgan-ish He is super gentle and he loves to goof around. Lisa, you sound like me-I drove my parents mad I was so crazy about horses! It’s definitely great to ride again!
This is neat! It’s been YEARS since I’ve ridden a horse. I’ve been meaning to ride again too… In SD there are places where you can ride on the beach and some trails and whatnot about 10 minutes away from where I live.
K&K, I know just how you feel and wanted to say congrats! I was a horse-crazy little girl and finally got my first horse horse last summer. Horses are so much fun. I would love to learn to jump and even do competitive trail riding one day. Do you have pictures of you riding?
