Games to play WITH the bunny!

I really wanted to interact with my bunnies more other than just feeding and petting so I’ve found a few games that they each like to play. 

Hazel likes to play “stick fight” = basically I take a nice chew stick and press it against her dewlap or gently against her nose. she likes to grab ahold of it and chew or sits up and boxes it. I know she’s playing with me because the minute I set it down or try to prop it up she notices and loses interest. 

Also I’ve taught her a couple of tricks. Her best one is that I call her over, then she gets up on an up-side-down bucket, she sits up, and has to give me a kiss. It took a surprisingly short period of time to get her to do it when you have a nice treat on the other end.

Also she has this little patch of carpet that’s her special place. I put things there and she immediately moves them off of the spot. Sometimes she really throws them! 

Dandelion loves this NYE decoration – this paper hat on the end of a springy thing. She likes to push it around with her nose, lunge at it, and bounce around. She also likes to take things out of my hands and toss them away. Anything. Stick. Phone. Book. Hands are for PETTING NOTHING ELSE!

Are there any games you guys play with your buns?

The bucket trick is so impressive! I’m terrible at training my buns. I just look at their fluffy faces and end up conceding the treat.

I have a few of those puppy logic puzzles (the bun has to lift or pull things apart to the treats) my girl loves them! That’s actually how she gets all her pellets.

I find if I work on “training” with them they become a lot less destructive. I learned the trick from dog people who teach dogs complex tricks which makes them stop tearing up stuff and digging in the yard. Have you ever seen the pro jumping bunnies who go through the obstacle courses? Very cool!
The puppy logic puzzle sounds interesting – have a fav you’d recommend?

My bunny, plays with my lacrosse ball. It takes all the strength she can muster, (she’s only 3 months old) and she’ll bounce it against the wall. I have a foam stress ball I let her use under supervision, and she’ll sprawl out and lazly bat it against the wall.
She adores paper towel tubes too. Spins them and kicks them.

They like treat balls. I’ll put her dinner in that. She’s actually started picking it up and throwing it against things or to get away from the other bunnies faster.

I also have a treater totter (what it sounds like. a teeter totter that you put treats in.) Not that great. She just tips it to one side and holds it there and once it’s out of treats she bangs it around.

She also has ones with cups. I have to put them in upside down so she can grab the edge and lift them off to get the treats out. Otherwise she’ll just tip the whole thing over to get to her food. That was really good when we first got it, but not she’s wise to its tricks and just launches all the cups across the room immediately. Adorable, but not that entertaining for her. I’m going to try more complex ones (ropes and drawers etc.) and see if they’ll entertain her a bit longer.

Pick up baby keys, hold in front of bunny. Bunny grabs keys and throws them. Repeat.

Baby stacking cups are fun too. Stack them up, bunny knocks them down. Repeat.

Chester likes his treatball (which I currently can’t find… he hid it somewhere) and his stacking cups. But he starts a game of “where’s the bunny” with me pretty much daily. He runs up to me and nudges my ankles, and when I go to pet him he zooms away and hides under the coffee the table. I then go “where’s my bunny?”, look for him and as soon as I touch him he zooms out and asks for pets. He gets petted and zooms under the coffee table again. Ladder, rise and repeat until bunny flops out

My bunny’s favorite game is “Chase The Bunny.” He’ll run around my feet repeatedly and then stop, and wait. I tickle him right above the tail, and he runs away, but just halfway around the table. Then he waits for me to catch up, and tickle him again. I tickle, he runs away. Then he’ll run around the table really fast, get directly behind my feet, wait until I turn around and then run away again. He’ll go for about ten minutes, and then when I try to tickle him, he flops down where he is, all worn out. He lets me know when he’s not in the mood by either refusing to move when I tickle him, or going into his hidey box under the table. We have to play this game at least five times a day.
