So the leader of the BIRD rescue called me last night to ask me if I could possibly take in a foster for a little while. I told her it depended on the size of the bird because I wasn’t sure how big of a cage I had room for and she proceeded to tell me that this wasn’t a bird, but an Angora! She knows I have Henri and Lilly and apparently one of the other volunteers went to an animal fair of some sort and rescued a baby from a tiny little cage but now can’t really cope with the extra care (he fosters 7 dogs and has two birds so I understand his dilemma). The bunny in question is only about 10 weeks old and is a fawn, not sure if it is male or female. I just know that he is really overwhelmed, his partner doesn’t even know the bunny is there, and it needs a place to go like NOW. . .

I don’t know what to do!!!

Oh geez! I bet it’s cute, but I wish people wouldn’t take on more than they can handle.

I think that you should be honest with the bird rescue if you think this is more than you can handle too. Rescuers have to be careful that they don’t overburden themselves too.

babybuns, yep, I have the cats too.

Sarita: I am sure it is absolutely adorable and I am extremely torn about what to do. . . either way it is not staying where it is and I am really worried that if I just let him post it on CL, it is going to end up like Lilly in a year and I don’t want that to happen either. Since he doesn’t really know much about their care, I don’t think that he could properly screen a potential owner to make sure they know everything their new bundle of fluff is going to need. . . That being said, I suppose I could post ads for him and go through the finding a new owner process that way but I think it would be easier if I actually knew the bun to do that.

that is tough. it’s so hard to see an animal in need but you have to do what will be best for you and for your furry family.

Angoragirl you can also post on Petfinder’s classified to find a home for her/him.

Does the bird rescue have a Petfinder’s account? They can also post the bunny on their petfinder’s account too – you will get alot of hits this way.

if they did that, i would have the rescue give the potential adopter your info so they can contact you with questions.

Yes, they can actually set you up as the contact for that particular listing or just forward you the email.

I didn’t even think about that! I am going to give the guy who has it a call at lunch and see if I can’t get some more information and then I’ll have Lynn list it with me as the contact. . . good idea!

if they are near enough to you, they could possibly come meet Lilly or Henri (or both) to see what a full-grown Angora looks like and some of what is involved. it would probably be better if they already have house rabbit experience b/c i’m thinking that having such a high maintenance bun as your first might be too difficult for some people. keep us posted on what happens… plus a petfinder link if that’s what you do…

Make sure you do the photo for Petfinder’s too – you will get more hits that way.
