So I got a bunny, mr. Muscles (mr m), over a month ago. We had a cat when he came home with us from the shelter. I let them get to know each under intense observation, spray bottle I’m hand. The cat was very confused by him since he didn’t act like pray, a dog, or a cat. She had a lot if animal social anxiety and mr m didn’t reciprocate her anxiety so she was actually the most behaved and relaxed I’d seen her with another animal. Anyway she wAs my mom’s so now she’s not living here. Now we’re watching another cat, who’s afraid of everything that whisper or moves, But Mr m has perked up, he’s been so excited. He’s run circles around the cat binklying almost the whole timei. He’s gotten more adventurous, the bedroom he’s been afraid to go in are now charted and claimed. It’s made me realize he needs a four legged friend sooner rather then later. The cat will be leaving in a month. Im gonna wait till the cats gone, so i have time to figure it out.

How do i choose a bunny? I’m asking around to fosters in the area, that would be easier if they’re older, fixed already, and they could meet before i bring a new one home,.But there’s also a breeder of mini lops, I really want a lop, i could get one in 2 months, but they would be 3 hours away. i don’t want to traumatize them by such a long ride Together right away, so they wouldn’t get to meet. I’d also have too get it fixed Which could change their personality right? Can I really tell their personality before their fixed or when they’re 2 months old?

I think it’s more difficult to tell the personalities of babies because my Scamper was way different as a baby than he is now. Although as for being fixed it probably won’t change their personality towards you, I’ve heard different in how they act towards another bunny. (i.e, my friend has two bunnies and they mostly got along before the male was fixed but once he got fixed she had to rebond him and the girlbun)
I personally always think that adopting from a rescue or shelter is better because then you can take your bunny in and have him meet lotsa other buns til he finds one that clicks with him! Lop eared buns do come to the shelters and rescues, you’d just have to be watchful since they do get adopted faster (just like babies.) As for the car ride, the bunny will dislike it no matter what so try not to fret too much about it.

Thank for the advice. One of the fosters got back to me about a cuddly female lop. She’s 10 months, that’s young but not a baby anymore, right? They said she can be aggressive and nippy about her cage though, I’m not sure I could deal with that very well especially if her getting fixed doesn’t change it.

It’s about an hour away. It seems like it’d be good to have her fixed before they meet but I’d also like to see if they would get along. If I had some extra money I’d have her fixed and see if they click, but having her spayed will be over $100. I’ll see pics hopefully today and get to meet her later this week.

It’s hard playing okcupid with bunnies…. Maybe there should be a personality quiz for finding bunny buddies, instead of a picture there a scratch and sniff with their scent

Are there any rescues near you? I think that would be your best bet.
