Yesterday I was laying down with my rabbit and I noticed he had a bald patch on one side of his lip area it was tiny (but very worrying) and a pink red colour. He seems to be ok though he’s eating, pooping, drinking, and playing with my other rabbit. does anyone know what could have caused this?

Do the rabbits groom each others faces? One rabbit can overgroom another to the point of bald patches. This usually happen around the eye, a favorite spot they like to groom.

A rabbit can wear the fur off themselves too, from constantly sticking their nose through the cage or pen bars. My friends rabbits did this across the top of their noses. Some pellets had been spilt just out of their reach and they spent ages sticking their noses through trying to reach them.

If the spot is more red like a rash, could it be a healing wound?

Can you provide a picture? Fur loss by the mouth can be a lot of things, a few jg mentioned. It can also be a result of drooling/excessive moisture there, which can come from teeth problems, and it can also be a skin-related disease like ringworm. Rabbit syphilis shows itself around mouth/genitals/inside the lips as well.

Based on the picture, it looks irritated or possiblyinfected. I personally would go see a vet and get a skin test done.

I agree with Mikey. It does not look like healthy bare skin exposed. It looks like something has developed and swelled already. Can you set up a vet appt as soon as possible?

no my parents don’t have enough money at the moment, right now it looks like his normal skin colour but it looks like a tiny dent in his lip…

I can sort of see a horizontally across, about the pink area. Is that what you meant by a dent? Try get a closer look as it may be a bite mark from the other rabbit. One of my rabbits got a bite there and has a bit of hard scar tissue there now.

Bites and other wounds can become abscessed quite quickly. Dealing with abscesses in rabbits is no fun. The pus cannot be lanced out with a needle because it is too thick.

I would do some investigation online and see if you have vet clinics that will do payment plans so your parents won’t be up for the full fee all at once. It is worth looking in something like care credit also. http://www.carecredit.com/vetmed/
You might like to take a look at the links on this page also, listed under the sub-heading “vet care and financial trouble?” https://binkybunny.com/RESOURCES/tabid/67/Default.aspx
Hopefully there is a solution to be found for when money is tight.

In the meantime, it wouldn’t hurt to put some plain neosporin on this, although how much stays there will be the challenge! Just take care
not to use any type that has added pain relief.

That looks like a bite to me. Are you sure the two rabbits aren’t fighting? How do they behave together? How long have they been living together?

I haven’t seen them fight, the mostly lay down very close and lick each others faces or eat their pellets together they share the same bowl but they have their own, maybe she bit him while they were sharing a bowl. they also haven’t been together for very long its been about  2 months and 1 month in a shared area.
