Wednesday i knew something was wrong.  She was a little off balance, took her to the vet.  He stuck the stick up her rear, pulled some poo and disappeared.  Came back and said i think shes got fur ball blockage.  He the vet went outside and picked her some clover and said will try to make her go naturally.  That after noon she was bad.  Very off balance wobbly, head falling to the side, an eye rolling back in her head.  I called him and told him shes worse and can harldy walk shes out of balance.  he told me well theres nothing we can do ,she probably has a tumor in the head or its a brain disase give her some water and let her go.  I interneted it.  Sounded like ear infection.  finally found a vet that would take a rabbit, and he said shes got both ear infections.  past two days hes give her antibiotic shots, steroid shots and today we started her on pills.  she finally started eating today after three days.  shes not wobbly now.  She has come along way.  Putting ear drops in her ears, thats bothering her shakine her head alot.  do rabbits come out of ear infections ok?? she was so bad but has come so far.  shes my baby girl. how do they get ear infections?  shes still sick but sooo much better.

you need to find another vet – a rabbit savvy one. The one that you are seeing does not sound like he knows what he is doing :-/ … I’m sorry to say that

you can look at rabbit.org for vets.

Is she on baytril for the ears? My rabbit has had recurrent ear infections and that is what I was given to put into her ears. She’s been 100% since.

Sorry to hear your bunny is unwell. That first vet clearly knows nothing about rabbits and it’s unfortunate you had to deal with him.

My lop has chronic ear issues and he’s had many ear infections that have always cleared up after antibiotic drops. Sometimes those infections can be stubborn though. If your bunny was having balance issues it was probably a middle or inner ear infection which is usually more difficult to clear up but bunnies can recover from this. Most ear infections are a complete mystery but your vet could do a culture to determine the type of bacteria.

That she is eating now and no longer wobbly is a good sign. Keep us updated.

She can be treated – I would definitely find a more rabbit experienced vet. Vibes to your bunny.

Thanks. makes me feel better. i never knew they got ear infections. This vet thats treating her now is the best we can do. we called several towns around but none know much about rabbits. Live in a very rural place. She is on baytril ear drops BUT they expired in 2002. it was all this new vet had. He said the main ingrediant would still be working fine. Can i buy the drops somewhere or they presciption? she seems to be eating more and more hay today when i feed it to her. She is also on Baytril pill. i grind it to powder and put it in a syringe and she drinks it.

You need really a more rabbit experienced vet. I think if EC could be responsible for the ear infection. Please think over EC!

All my good wishes for bunny!

I would go onto http://www.rabbit.org, the House Rabbit Society’s website, and use their vet finder search for an experienced vet listed in the town closest to where you live. Then you can ask the second vet that is now treating her if he would be willing to call that vet. It’s probable that a vet some distance away may have fresh medication in stock and be able to ship it to your local vet within a few days. Also, if he wants to, they could do a phone consultation.

The first vet should have a sign that says “do not treat small pets” and get out of the business. But the second is doing his best. This will probably clear up with enough medication, time and attention.

baytril in any form is prescription- if you paid for those drops-get the vet to order new ones for you!!!! Sounds like you need a more experienced rabbit vet- 2nd sounds better than first- but still questionable.
