Funny Noises

Ok this is going to be hard to explain.  basically Bugz was in his cage today when i got home from work.  I gave him his “treat” food and he ate that (some chopped carrot) and then he was lying there making these whineing noises sort of like what a young kitten makes, I was not even sure it was him to start with.  he is sitting normal and looks fine was eating and drinking so thought it was just me.

Go to the gym get home and let him out for a run (thanks for the suggestion of changing the cage to make it his choice to come out) we played a bit and then i gave him his mixture and veggies for dinner he ate some and then started the noise again and then 4 mins later started running around the room and teasing the dogs under the door and then back to sitting still and making the noise.

Maybe it’s nothing but i have lost 3 birds in the past 5 weeks to illness and I could not face losing another pet.  otherwise he seems fine running around the room and finding all the stuff I did not see or did not think he would get into.

Some rabbits are very vocal – they grunt, snore, all kinds of noises. It sounds to me that they are grunts or noises of pleasure.

Moneky has only ever made one noise, and that was a sad little cry at the vets when she went in for her eyes to be checked. That little sound about made me cry

Thanks guys, sort of on edge at the moment with pets. On the thursday night I got Bugz Willow my Eckkie had a stroke and died in my arms a few weeks before hand I had to put my king parrot down and my 11 year old Budgie passed away. They all got the same thing and it is a horrible diesese (PBFD) and I can’t have another bird in my house for 5 years! So my parrents agreed to let me keep Bugz (I am 29 and do not live at home but still need parent permission!) even though he was on a 3 week foster stay and now I rang them and told them he is staying. I am just a little on edge at the moment so scared that he is going to die. Feeling better about the noises now but will keep an eye or ear out for them

Thats funny that you still need parental permission even though you don’t live at home But don’t worry! Bugz will be fine as long as you take care of him *snuggles for Bugz!*

 OH noo all your birds and none for  5 years.  That is heartbreaking.

Some parents just don’t know when to let go!

bunnytowne I kept 4 guys outside but have to be careful but they say it can live in the environment for up to 5 years so if the guys outside breed (they are quakers and Green Cheeks so they sleep in nest boxes so you have to give them nest boxes so they might breed but I am hoping that they also might not) I have people who are prepared to take the babies and raise them if there is an issue as I can’t raise them in the house.

Coco Makes ALL KINDS of crazy snoring sounds. We couldn’t believe it when we first realized that it was a Rabbit making that noise!

yeah i was told that rabbits do not make noises unless sick so here I was freaking out when in fact I think he was just happy!

I noticed as soon as Freya got her condo and moved out of the bathroom that she snores. Wierd.

I get lots of little whiny noises from my mini-rex. He is VERY vocal about all sorts of things, usually having to do with grooming and ear cleanings. >.<
When he gets upset about anything and thumps his back feet, he’ll make a little whine that sounds like a small child stomping his foot and crying because he’s not getting what he wants. *rolls eyes*
I always ask him if he wants a little cheese with it.
My lop also makes a sort of grunty/snuffly noise when he grooms himself. It’s like he’s complaining about having to reach the hard spots. ^_^
As far as I know, although I’m no vet, there aren’t any diseases that cross species between rabbits and birds, are there? That would be a good question for your vet.
And my sympathies on your losses. That’s rough. But now you have a bunny to cheer you up! ^_^
Also, don’t worry…I’m in my forties and although my folks have passed on years ago, now I have to ask the husband permission for stuff! lolz!

MimzMum PBFD can not be transferred to the bunny as it is Beak and Feather related and well a bunny have neither!

I guess I could not have asked my parents but it makes it easier to be around them if they are involved. I did mention that I was thinking about getting one and they where like Nope not going to happen (I grew up on a large farm and my dad has battled wild rabbits his whole life there are in plague groups out here I can remember trapping and shooting them as a child to cull the numbers). But i said that I would foster Bugz and they where happy for that but they soon worked out that he was just what I needed to help me move on from the bird situation. Don’t get me wrong I think i will always go back to birds I really want to get an african grey and if I move I will be looking into that but at the moment the risk is to high.

I find it kind of funny that your bun’s noises concern you, becuase when I first brought my rabbit home it was the LACK of noise that worried me. I’ve always had guinea pigs, who like to announce every move they make with a squeek or grunt or clicking of little claws on the wooden floor. For the first few days I was always like, “where is she?! She was on that box a second ago and now – whoa! How’d you get behind me so quick?!” She’s found a way to rival my guinea pig in noise, though. About an hour before my alarm goes off every morning, she wakes me up, tearing through the bedroom and making flying leaps into her litterbox. Watching a crazed rabbit zooming around your room is a surprisingly pleasant way to start the day

I’m so sorry to hear about the birds. I’ve never been much of a bird person, but I can’timagine the pain of not being able to have a dog or guinea pig or any other animal I love in my home for five years . . .

Also, if it looks like he’s chewing or moving his jaw just a little bit while making these noises, it could be a tooth purr which is a way happy noise. It looks like your bun is a dwarf breed. The breed’s head is often so compact that there are some ‘issues’ with either teeth or air passages. Nothing to be alarmed about as long as they are acting fine but you will want to check from time to time to make sure his teeth are evenly worn and aren’t growing crooked.
