So my boys (Holland Lops) got neutered on monday (it is Thursday evening) and Henry has been odd today. He twitches when he hops but not a binky…more like a spasm. He hasnt done it in a little bit but still concerning. I think he might also be biting his hair out. I just checked his (no longer) testicles and Henry has a small red scab on his and the other (Ollie) has a bigger scab. They both have a lot of darkening on one of their testicles. I cant tell the difference between them eating poop out of their behinds or if theyre going at their testicles. Any way to decipher? I cant tell if they are biting or licking their fur but they are turning and licking/biting their own backs.

I think you should call the vet that did their neuters. Preoccupation with their wounds, could mean pain/discomfort. The darkening is bruising. Sometimes there is leakage of blood into the scrotal sack and the scrotal sac can get very big. This too is something to discuss with your vet. If you can get pictures of their areas, maybe you can send them to your vet for assessment.

Are they eating and drinking like they should?

The vet tech gave me the email of a rabbit expert from a different vet clinic and so I will email her however Im assuming sure wont be back until tuesday due to memorial day:/ They are just as hungry as before! Theyve been eating A LOT. But that is nothing new. I feel bad for them because they are used to being together and they are currently separated. Any tips on “reintroducing” them? Theyve lived their entire lives together, but when Ive tried to let them spend time together under my supervision the one just insistently tries to mount the other one.

Hey there, i just wanted to share my experience with re-bonding after a surgery.

We have one bonded pair, Pumpkin (female) and Benson (male). Before they bonded (two years or so ago), Benson was neutered but Pumpkin only recently got spayed this year. When she did, she spent two or three weeks recovering in a cage when before she free roamed our kitchen with her partner.

After she was healed enough to start running around again, Benson acted like he didn’t know her at all even though he wouldn’t leave her cage door and would only eat by her cage. He would grunt/snort and scratch at her when they were face-to-face. She was so startled that she wouldn’t come out of the cage. The cage we had set up for her didn’t have a top to it.

But one night after reintroducing them during a car ride, she hopped out of the cage and overnight they were back to being inseparable. Even though we wanted to wait another two weeks so that the hormones were out of her system, but she kept hopping out of the cage to get back to Benson. So we decided to stop putting her in it to keep her from straining herself.

After a month has passed since their surgeries, and they are all healed up, i suggest bringing them to a neutral territory to do re-introductions and go from there depending on how it went.  Pumpkin and Benson originally bonded in two days (no joke) but it took about two weeks to re-bond them and two car rides.

Thanks for the insight! I tried to give them neutral territory but Ollie just get chasing and humping Henry so they have been separated for quite some time! How long do you think until I can put them together? They look so distraught but Henry tries to escape every time Ollie tries to hump him. I dont want him to feel stressed out.

Also do you have any experience with litter training?

They have never been 100% with their litterbox, they would poop like 60% of the time in their litterbox, and always pee in there. Well now neither are pooping in the litter box and there is poop everywhere! I try to keep up but they are pooping machines!
