Let’s face it… my rabbit is REALLY lazy! All he does is eat, sleep and make us pet him. Once in a while he’ll do a binky for us. I really want to be able to play with him and bond with him but every time I go into our rabbit proofed room (the family room) he darts away. He could careless about the millions of toys I buy him. He’s got about five different balls, all make different noise when rolled. He has chew toys and a lot of other stuff. What’s a way I could make him happier, bond with him? Also, what are some really REALLY REALLY fun toys that your bunny loves?! I’m also up for making something for him or some fun games (I’ve tried hide and seek…)! Thanks a bunch.

If you don’t mind a bit of a mess, the Naturals willow ball filled with meadow hay available on eBay from the UK is always a hit with my buns. When they chew a hole in the willow and get to the hay, some starts to spill out on the floor but my buns are mad to get to that hay and love rolling it around, pursuing it, and their job to get to the hay. That I think is my most successful toy for them as they love the willow too, and it lasts for a while.  The one they have in the UK on eBay ships worldwide.  By the way, the Oxbow tunnel in the pic below, and I think it’s sold in the BB store, is a hit with my bunnies too, as a chew toy. At the time the picture was taken, Buddie couldn’t make up his mind whether to go for the willow ball or the tunnel, so he played with both, alternately!  If, after you try something someone suggests and find its a big hit with your bunny, post a notice with a pic about it, will you, as i’m always looking for new ideas too. Good luck!

I had great success with the egg carton toy and anything wicker.

Toilet rolls also help. And for some reason my bunny likes chasing string . I think she thinks she’s a cat sometimes!

Bunnies love anything they can work on, destroy, and eat. Hidden treats involved is usually a plus! Unlike dogs and cats who play to “practice” their predatory skills (chasing balls, batting at strings), bunnies interact with their environment differently, so humans may be disappointed at their lack of “play”…you’ve got to think about what a bunny normally does to find toys he or she would like.

That’s really well said. One of Zelda’s favourite things is to be chased or to follow me around. And climbing. Does anyone elses bunny climb obsessively?!
