        Hello Everyone!

My local pet store recently launched a new brand line called Full Cheeks and from what I can see they have some really fun chews and toys. I picked up some little hard cubes for my bunnies and they really enjoyed them but then I noticed the ingredients are Timothy Hay, Ground Corn, and Ground Rice. Out of curiosity I felt the rice was an odd ingredient and looked up to see if it was safe for bunnies. A quick google search says No!

So I wanted to pop on here to see what your opinions are since it would be just a treat maybe 1-2 times a week?

I am assuming the rice is acting as a binder in the treats like how some use potatoes (is potato better?). If anyone else has ideas for small chew toys ideas I would love to hear them. I am in Canada. Normally they get chew logs but I am about to move across the country in a few weeks and it’s going to take 10-11 days of driving to get to the new home so I am hoping to find little things for the hotels and van.

        Thank you!

Generally, many treats made by “lower quality brands”, let’s say, will rely more heavily on rice and such as binders — as you mention, it’s not ideal reliative to something nutritious, but it’s not instantly toxic or anything. In small quantities, it can be fine.

Potato is a no-go though — the plant itself and unripe fruit are indeed toxic to rabbits.

Oh Thank You! This is good to know. I think I will play it safe and stick to the healthier snacks for them 🙂

Hey, just wanted to pop in here since I have good knowledge of the full checks brand. It is petsmarts own brand. Some of their things are ok but most aren’t. I would steer away from the food or toys with food because they do add a bunch of unhealthy and dangerous ingredients into them. Some of their toys are ok but stay away from their loofah, and really anything colored. But they’re wood sticks and toy balls and mostly good. Just check with the balls that they didn’t glue them some they do and some they don’t. I know that was a bit so just to summarize

              – stay away from any food

              – stay away from loofah

              – stay away from anything colored

              – toy balls are typically ok

              – wood that’s uncolored is ok

              I hope this helps!
