Our beloved Frosty got sick in the night. Before bed we noticed he didn’t seem himself, a bit miserable. He had eaten some parsley and had been to toilet. I know because I had to sweep a load of his “maltesers” off of the carpet. We had just bathed him that day so we thought we had hurt him perhaps? I checked on him every few hours. By the morning he deteriorated rapidly. By the time he got to the vet he was almost dead, shallow breathing stone cold, eyes glazed over, stiff limbs, no energy, couldn’t stand, no balance. We rushed him in and the vet said he was blocked up solid. Gastric problems. He’s been on a drip last night, had gut stimulants, pain killers etc etc. This morning the vet said he was brighter and has eaten a little, but might have to be opened up to remove whatever is blocking him. I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience? We are going to visit him in an hour, hopefully perk him up a bit. Keep your fingers crossed for us!

((((Healing Vibes for your Frosty)))) Has you vet taken x-rays or ultra sound to verify blockage? Hopefully the fluids and motility drugs will clear the way.

Healing vibes to Frosty. It sounds like the vet has it hopefully under control too.

            Please keep us updated.

Thanks for your kind messages. It did come on so quick and so severe I was half thinking he’d been poisoned or had an electric shock or something? Really weird. I’ve had rabbits with stassis before and if caught early they normally recover fairly quickly. We did see him at the surgery today, he lifted his head a little, I was shocked at how poorly he still seemed. He’s quite a big lad so the drip was in his paw, sometimes they put it in the ear aparently. We’re still very upset. I popped back with a present of parsley and mint. The vet says he has been nibbling at little bits of fresh grass. His temperature was a little low this morning which is a shame. I know it’s crazy but I think the sound of our voices perked him up a little. They seem to like familiarity, if they hear us chomping on some biscuits or something, they start eating too. Well, sigh, I don’t know what else to do or say, I really miss the little guy, I just have a terrible feeling he’s not made as much progress as he should. I’ll keep you all up to date xx

Did the vet also check his teeth? Many times dental problem can cause stasis. Poor little guy.

Well it isn’t really good news I’m afraid. He was taken in on Sunday, it’s now Tuesday and he doesn’t seem to have made massive progress. His legs are badly splayed. He can’t get up and messes himself. It really upset us again today. We are in a real dilema as to whether or not to put him to sleep tomorrow. We can’t watch him suffer like this. It could be the meds making him seem so out of it but I really don’t know if we’re being cruel keeping him in this state? Only time will tell but he doesn’t deserve this

Oh, I’m sorry, that does not sound good. Did the vet give you a diagnosis? Does he know what it is?

I’m so sorry to hear about Frosty. I have had a bun not doing well at the vet before, and it is very hard to deal with. The hardest part for me is not being with them the whole time, I’m sure he was really happy to hear your voices. Could you maybe bring him a blanket from home to help him feel more at home? I know that vets offices sometimes have cats and dogs in them, so maybe if he has a familiar scent around him instead of cats and dogs, he will feel better.

We are going to have Frosty put to sleep in an hour. The vet says he will have no quality of life if we don’t. He isn’t responding to treatment. He thinks gi stassis is a symptom of something more sinister . He seems to have a neurological disorder. We have been crying for quite a while, I’m not looking forward to this one bit. Send him your prayers and sorry to bring such horrible news xx

I’m so sorry.  I’m glad you were strong enough to help him to pass without any more pain.
