Hello again. We’re starting to introduce veggies into Sully’s diet and I wanted to ask about fresh spinach leaves.  I didn’t see it on any ‘no’ lists so I thought I’d see if anyone else’s little bunnies like it. We gave him a little bit to try and he really likes it, we’ve only been giving him a leaf or two over the last couple of days to make sure it’s not going to cause PB. So what to you guys say? Does fresh spinach get a yay or nay?

            Hi Kelly,

The best go/nogo list I have seen for bunny greens is from medirabbit.  You can see it here http://www.medirabbit.com/EN/GI_diseases/Food/feeding_en.pdf

As to personal experience, I feed my guys spinach occasionally.  They get the baby leaves as part of their spring mix, and over the winter I grew some in the garden for them.  There is a subsance in spinach (oxalic acid maybe?) that is bad for them in large amounts, so I try to limit their spinach to every couple of weeks.

I have not fed my buns spinach as when the “spinach scare” with the E. Coli (is that what it was tainted with?) came about my rescue group recommended people NOT feed spinach until it was definitely safe. I just stopped all together with spinach, my buns are quite content with romaine, parsley, and cilantro!

Thanks guys (especially Osprey for the link to a new site.) We had some extra spinach in the fridge and just thought that we’d give it a try. I’ll just stick the veggies that I’ve seen listed often. Thanks so much, you guys are awesome

I eat spinach and feed my buns and shelter buns spinach. I rarely give it to my house buns only because only one seems to even like it. The scare didnt bother me so much only because it could happen again, anytime but with something closer to home-like romaine lettuce. I just make sure I wash everything really well.

I also feed my buns romaine lettuce, turnip greens, parsley (they like flat leaf the best), endive, radish tops, dandelion greens, cilantro.

I live in OH and the cheapest place by far to buy greens has been in our Meijer store. It beats all the other stores.

I’ve heard that spinach is fine in small amounts, but should be limited.
