I have a post from a few months ago about my most recent bunny not eating hay. I’ve always given him several types of hay to get him to eat and he only eats a little at a time. He wasn’t fed hay before we got him. We just got new bales of hay last week which was baled the week before. He is eating more of this than any hay! It’s still not as much as he should be eating, but it is an improvement. He just ate around 8 pieces of long hay in one sitting which is great for him. I just wanted to share in case someone else is struggling with a rabbit not eating hay (not gi stasis but a previously unhealthy lifestyle). We have also given him fresh oat grass but he doesn’t eat much of it.
He is about 9 months old now and is finally getting neutered next week.

Btw this hay is orchard grass and grass mix.

Yay! Keep working on it and hopefully you’ll get him up to where he should be, but in the meantime I’m glad to hear that he’s eating more of it!

Lovely news! Fresh hay is great! I’m lucky enought to know a farmer who grows his own hay for his own horses and he kindly lets my bun have as much hay as he can possibly eat 😃 Rabbits can be so fickle when it comes to hay!

Oh wow that is lucky Bam! I have to search hard every time I need new farm hay to find something good that isn’t too far!

Yay, that’s golden that he’s starting to eat more hay! I’ve heard buns like orchard grass hay more because it’s sweeter ♥

We have a local horse stable, and we get our orchard hay cheap by the bale. It’s so much more affordable than buying pet store hay, plus it’s less dustier and much greener. Lol, the stuff they were selling at the pet store looked like a bag of dirt. You couldn’t even call it hay. Do you have a close stable maybe? They usually have tons of good quality hay there.

That’s great news! My buns always get so excited when we get a fresh bale!

Thanks guys! We have farms around here but I look online to see who is selling hay. I just hope we can continue to get fresh stuff!
