Right now i have a holland lop (11 week old) baby, i love love love the way french lops look, so big! I was wondering how well french lops get along with people and other bunnies? My current holland lop is already very friendly so im not worried one bit about her having bonding issues. Also, looking up places to actually get a french lop is difficult in florida, it was easy for the holland lop, they seem to be everywhere, but not french, at least around this time of year…

First – please understand that even though your bun may be the sweetest bun to you, they can turn into the Tazmanian Devil when they meet another bun. Many years ago I had a sweet, friendly , easygoing bun and the minute he met the new bun it was all teeth and flying fur! Please be prepared for a long bonding process that can take weeks to months to never.

The personality of a bun really depends on the bun and not on the breed, so it’s hard to say.
I think if we’re really over-generalizing, then larger breeds are thought to be more ‘easy going’, but as Cheri says, when bonding, buns are far from easy-going!

My experience was the same as Cheri. Baxter was the sweetest bun – wanting to make friends with a chinchilla at his last home….so we thought a baby bun would be the perfect companion for him – NOT! He became extremely aggressive – lunging, growling, flying fur. We had to keep them separate for a couple months – to let the baby grow up, and be able to defend itself, before we tried bonding.

Sorry – no idea where to find French Lops.

If you are looking for a bunny companion for your rabbit search shelters and rescues. They may have what you are looking for. Take your current rabbit to meet the hopeful and make sure they will be compatible before you adopt another bunny. It’s not so easy bringing home a strange bunny to another bunny so make sure your rabbit meets the rabbit first! When I adopted my rabbits I did not go based on what I wanted I went on who was best suited for my bunnies. Bunnies get to chose, not us.
