Free roaming rabbit..

I have a one year old male Netherland dwarf / lionhead cross called Ziggy. Behaviour wise is good, he’s friendly and approachable and loves attention. He’s always had full access to my bedroom when I am in during the day, and he is especially fond of my bed.

Now that I have finished bunny proofing my bedroom, I’m slowly allowing him more freedom – I’ve recently tested him out during the night, and so far so good, minus a few accidents. 

However, when he is on my bed he really likes to pee on it. He was neutered at six months of age, and I try discourage him from peeing there by moving him to his litter box the second I notice him about to pee or if he has already done it. However, the problem still persists. I can’t stop him from going on my bed as there’s no way to really close it off, and I don’t mind him being on it minus the wetting issue.

Any further ideas of how I can stop this behaviour?

Lots of bunnies have obsessions with peeing on beds unfortunately. One theory is because it smells strongly of human, so they want to mark it as theirs. A solution that works for some people is putting one of the bunny’s blankets on your bed. This way it smells more of him, and he might not feel the need to mark it.

You could also try having a litter box on the bed when you’re not in it.
