I am new to this since (since February) IAre most of the buns on this site caged or confined?  Are there many free-range buns?  The reason I am asking is Oreo is a free-range bun and does well.  (I am one lucky human)

Mine are cage confined, mostly because (1) I have 6 and they are all unaltered and (2) I haven’t bunny proofed at all.
Once I get them altered I will attempt a mass bonding so they can roam.

My first rabbit Bunbun was free range and it was so fun having him hang out. Because I have so many now they are confined for various reasons – old age, not great with litter box, destructo bunnies, illness. I have a few that would be fine out but at this point I cannot do that.

My little buns are only confined to their pen at night & on the rare occasion that I am gone for the day.

I am really lucky – my buns are so well behaved – they only chew and dig on their own toys, totally litter trained – therefor they have access to almost the whole house – However, they choose to stick mostly to the living / dining room.

It is really great to have them run around the house!

my two are in xpens in “the bunny room”. they could theoretically have access to the bunny room at all times. but i prefer them being confined when i’m not home for an extended length of time and at night. i worry too much that they’d get hurt otherwise. once they are bonded, i’ll see how they are together in the rest of the house. i don’t want any extensive damage to the house b/c we rent. i have things bunny-proofed very well, but there’s always something else they can get into.

My THREE (welcome Chuck!!) are free range…it’s a little disappointing as they spend alot of time in their condo, but it’s really nice to have them out all the time-they are even allowed in our bedroom (when did my boyfriend become such a pushover?) LOL

If you bunnyproof, it’s quite do-able!

Pepper has been free-range for nearly 2 years, and we even eliminated her cage in January (She had pretty much moved to her “fort” under the papasan chair).  I have the bedroom/sewing room gated off because of pins and wires, but everything else is bunnyproofed.

My 3 buns are caged because they are not bonded right now. I let them out for run time separately in the evening.

My bun (Bonnie Lee) is free range all day throughout part of my home.   She  goes to her cage at night and I  lock her in her cage at night just for safety reasons.   I work from home so I am here with her all day.   Bonnie Lee has a little tent (a canvas cat tent) in our formal living room … and she loves to go to her tent first thing in the mornings and she sleeps and eats hay in her tent during the morning hours.

Bonnie is great about using her litter box and she normally keeps my home clean.  She only has one litter box in our home and it is kept in her cage in another room (my dining room …. our formal dining room we do not use too often … so it is more quiet in this area for her cage).   She does leave some droppings around her cage on the outside.   I have read she may be marking her territory with
her cage being her territory.  …… Or is this some droppings sticking to her fur and falling off after she leaves her cage after using the litter box ? ……. I am not sure.

I obtained Bonnie Lee in February and she is my first house rabbit and she has turned out to be a great  house rabbit …. she never chews on anything but her toys and magazines I put down for her.

I have a Cocker Spaniel and he and Bonnie get along great.    They sleep a few inches apart …. I hope one day to find them snuggled up together.

Bonnie Lee sounds sweet! the poops by her cage might just be ones she kicks out by accident. it happens, i’d suggest you invest in a good hand vac if you haven’t already. it’s great to be able to just pick them up real quick…

ours are free range to their area. With that I mean they have an entire vanity/bathroom area all to themselves. Lately the new bunny has been making a HORRIBLE mess of it. Rain (our white and black) has been wonderful, then we got Shiloh and shes just terrible with her messes.

                              Welcome Adee!

Shiloh is probably demonstrating some pretty normal behavior, Oreo, and Bonnie-Lee sound like exceptional house rabbits, but most rabbits do not know how to behave like that without training.

What kind of messes is Shiloh making? It could be that she is not yet litter trained and needs training, or because she is in a new place, she could be territorial marking. All these habits are trainable, but its very rare for a bunny to be introduced into a new environment and immediately be perfectly behaved. Post some questions about the trining questions you have, and we’ll be happy to answer! (if you haven’t already, I haven’t looked through all the forums yet!)

Regarding what MooBunnay mentioned in the prior post ……… yes, my bun (Bonnie Lee) does great now with her litter pan …. but when I first brought her to my home ….. she did go #2 all over my home somewhat for a couple of weeks.    I never saw anywhere that she wet though ….  it did appear she always went to her litter pan to wet.      After  a few weeks here in her new home… and after she got  comfortable with her new living quaters ….. she began doing better and better with her litter pan training and she stopped going #2 around the house.    As mentioned above in my prior post … she does real well now with her litter box.

Shiloh is getting better. She isnt litter trained yet so we still get lots of stray poopies from night-morning, one mornign there had to be like 100+ beebees on the floor I almost fainted haha. typically in the afternoon when we get home from work there isnt much of a mess, maybe 8 bebes on the floor. ((knock on wood)) neither of them has peed outside the litter pan since the day after we got them. Shiloh is getting better about wanting to be touched, petted, exc and Rain is just awesome about that kinda stuff. She snuggles right up under your feet (when brushing teeth, exc) and just licks you to pieces.. even when your petting her she just licks licks licks.. they are both great bunnies im sure all of what they are doing is typical for “new” bunnies. Shiloh was eating the door way they have throught the bathroom door and i sprayed it with a bit of perfume and she seemsto be leaving it alone now which is good. Like I said.. they are just doing typical bunny things.

Mine are not confined to cages. They have their own room and during the day, they have access to a garden, bunny proffed, of course. I let them have free roam of the house, mainly living room and kitchen when the dogs are outside. I love having them around, though ever since Lemoncello arrived, (female, first I had only Baileys, male), Baileys has not come out for such long periods of time. She doesn’t like coming out much and he likes hanging out with her, so he comes to the living roo and spends some time with us, but he then goes back to where his princess is. Baileys has perfect litter manners but he does chew on things. Although I have taken care of wires (after several losses), I still supervise him a lot, lest he shoulg get into mischief!

My wee bonnie bunny is completely free range and is king of the house. He demands to be let into the bedroom every morning at about 6:30am and lies on the bed with me until I get up, sleeps on our couch all day while we’re at work and loves to watch TV with us on the couch at night. He did take a while to get use to his litterbox and he detroyed a few cords before we perfected bunny-proofing but I think it was all worth it.

The picture below is Charlie getting into my uni assignments and tearing them to shreds about a week ago, so he’s still pretty destructive (by the way, this is in my bedroom, where he is never allowed unsupervised)

All three boys were netured on Wednesday.  All are doing well. Before I took them to the vet all I had to do was tap on the floor of their cage and they would come to me.  The following day I tapped on the cage floor and they turned their backs on me.  They were mad.

In about two and half weeks I have to start the bonding process. The cage is a condo that is 4 stories high so I built steps (will be used supervised) so Oreo (mom of the the boys) can visit them.

Litter training?  Oreo’s little box  is in the corner but I noticed that her poops (intentional) are not in the litter box so layed carpeting under the littler box that reached all the way to her cage.  She is pooping on the carpet *which is fine it is her carpet” but there was a time she kept them in the littler box.  She also poops in the litter box but there is more on the carpert.  .  Does anyone know why?   Now the boys are in the condo could she be marking her space so the boys know. When I leave the boys out seperatly I lift Oreo’s litter boxes and lock her cage doors.  When I would clean their cages I would put the bunny in the bottom cage (Oreo’s) She busted me one day and she was mad.  She kept on hitting me with her nose.  At first I thought she wanted me to move so I did she then came up to me and continued it she wanted the baby out of her cage.

A funny rabbitude.. when I first built the cage I put Oreo’s litter box in the cage for the following three days I kept  finding her litter box hanging out the door.  I moved it in the corner of the livingroom.  (that is what she wanted)

it sounds like marking on her part. bunnies don’t have much of a family loyalty. it doesn’t matter if they are parents, children or siblings… all she knows is that there are other bunnies on her turf. let us know when the boys are healed and you start the bonding.

Layla is in her condo quite a bit but she’s just recently getting the litter training thing down pretty well. She was pee trained right away, that took no work, but the poos were harder.. She’s fine in my room (where her condo is) but I sometimes bring her in the living room of my apartment if I have something to do there and she forgets her training and just goes everywhere so we pretty much stay in one room. I work more than I’d like to right now due to having 2 jobs (have to get ahead on some bills, new car and all) but she’s out whenever I’m home and awake which is at the least 3 hours a day, but she tends to be out more like 5 hours a day. Even when her cage is open, though, she prefers her condo… She’s cute about her “apartment”… keeps it really clean, always picking up stray peices of hay she drops. If I didn’t rent, I’d consider having her out more, but I just don’t trust that she won’t destroy my carpet and as I work 10 hour shifts, she’d have ample time to put a huge amount of damage in. I’m sure my landlord would NOT approve of that. She’s got a BIG roomy cage, though, and seems completely happy there.
