Found little red/bald spot?

Okay so i’m freaking out a little.. hopefully i’m just overreacting.. but yesterday night I noticed Loki had a little bare spot on the side of his neck. (a little bit lower than his mane) I brushed around the area to notice that it was a little bare, not much hair.. I looked closer and I noticed there’s some new hair growing in. I’m a first time rabbit owner, so I just assumed it was molting. Until I looked closer just now after brushing and realized there is a small red spot… doesn’t look like a scab, it just looks like a little red spot. probably the size of a pimple but it isn’t raised. I couldn’t tell if he was irritated by me touching it, or if he was just annoyed that I had been bugging him all night trying to search his body. (which could be likely.) Loki has had ear mites before. I gave him the medication, and in the summer.. about June, was the last time he was at the vet, and I had her check for mites, and she said he didn’t have any. So i’m hoping it’s just mites again maybe…. i’m not sure what else it could be. I’ll call and get him in if necessary, it’s just hard to get him in soon because his vet is so busy being that she’s the only vet around that takes rabbits.

keep calm and keep observing the spot. It might be part of a normal molt, buns can loose fur in patches (and the can look really terrible for a while, but it’s not a sign of anything wrong).

If it is mites, you’ll see some skin flakes, like dandruff, and maybe some other irritation of the skin. If the red spot doesn’t heal but gets bigger and flaky or scaly, then it could be ringworm, which is a fungal infection and has nothing to do with worms. The bunny is also likely to try and scratch himself, esp if it’s ringworm. Both these things, mites and ringworm, you should see a vet about to get meds. But for now, just keep an eye.

It could also be a skin infection. My cat just got over one of these. The vets have no idea where it came from. There was no cut, and it’s apparently a bacteria associated with dog bites in people (I have no dog; cat is indoor only). If it gets dramatically worse very quickly (hers was non-existent to noticeably big in one day) I recommend a vet!

you think molting could cause a little scab like that? it’s not open or anything. it just looks like a little irritated circle or sore maybe.. I checked last night and I couldn’t find it.. but it doesn’t help that he has so much hair and is so tough when I try to look into his coat. I don’t see any flakes or anything.. but the last time he had ear mites there was no physical symptoms other than him scratching. He’s always scratching at his face but I don’t know how much scratching is normal

No molting wouldn’t cause a scab. Just hair-loss, the skin should be uncompromized.
This is sth else then. You can put some bag-balm on it or if you have some neosporin cream (plain neosporin, not the kind that has an added pain killer) just to see if it helps. You can blow in his fur to locate the spot/see if there are more spots.
A rabbit should not “always” be scratching itself, just once in a while. If he scratches himself such a lot, sth isn’t right – but what it is all about, you need a vet to help you find out. It may even be an allergy.

Hey! I am new to the site, just looking for some advice. Our baby bunny Matilda (approx 20-28weeks) has developed a red patch on her back, with what looks like a scab. She is a house rabbit and lives alone. We are very concerned as she is our first pet and it doesn’t look very nice. The fur around the red patch has gone also.

She is eating well and toilet habits etc all ok. I have a pictur I can send but unsure on how to send it?

Did she happen to have any injections recently?

ETA: This is a photo of the skin reaction my rabbit had after being vaccinated. Is your rabbits skin irritation like this?

Ok, I have THREE house rabbits, free roam because….they r my CHILDREN.

Sis is the one I was gifted first.

So saying she comes and chills with me is NOTHING…..and it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve felt something…..they bite each other occatiinally…..

But a few days ago, I felt a bump on her…..idk, hind end/side….I finally was like…..’thats IT…..i wanna see it.

So I just went and wetted down her hair a bit and DUG through that stinking fur….and what I FOUND looks like the picture I APPARENTLY am commenting on.

—–my girls have never had any vaccinations of any kind.

Please help me know if I should be concerned

The picture is my rabbit who had a skin reaction after one of his shots. That is up in the shoulder/neck area. 

If you are feeling a bump, I would go get that checked out. If there is a tendency to bite one another, you could be looking at an abscess. Bite wounds easily become abscessed in rabbits. 

  The bump is red in colour? 

You mentioned “stinking fur”.  Is it soiled with urine?  Rabbits are usually so clean and groom themselves a lot. Fur that smells is a concern. If she has irritated skin at her hind end, she could be scratching or biting the area herself.
