She’s decided she LOVES digging into the cushions of our overstuffed furniture. She doesn’t eat my carpet, she doesn’t chew anything, she doesn’t pee or poop outside of her cage– but BOY does she love to jump up on the couch and get busy digging. I’ve rubbed perfume onto the cushions, hoping that will deter her, no dice. I’ve tried yelling and clapping. I’m about to break out the water spray bottle.

Anyone got any tips for discouraging this? She’s an ANGEL otherwise!!!

my Meadow loves digging on the couch. of course we had just gotten new (expensive) couches about 6 months before we got her, but i don’t know… i think the holes add character. Mike does not agree.

i keep comforters, pillows and blankets folded on the couch (i’m always cold) so she will usually dig and bunch those up. another thing i’ve done is draping the whole couch with a blanket and she loves bouncing around on top of it.

clapping and yelling does not do much for Mead either. or it might work the first time and then she’s right back there again. what works is me standing up and walking towards her, then she’ll jump down for a few minutes. spray bottle does not always work, and usually it just makes the couch wet.

that being said, i think couch digging is MUCH BETTER than couch PEEING… so i try not to complain too much. it is, after all, only a couch.

I have 2 towels on mine.  They like to dig on them occassionally.  It’s the pee problem that was annoying.  Putting big comforters or old blankets down sounds like a good idea.

Jersey loves to dig and rearrange a bean bag I have in a corner behind a chair. It is now become her bean bag. It’s great as it keeps her occupied and she can sort of burrow into it. She does chew holes in it which I have to watch. I’ll have to put a 2nd cover on it for reinforcement soon.

Blankets, etc are good idea as they like to pick up with teeth and push bits around.

                  Thanks for the replies, everyone!

Today, so far, it has not been an issue- she’s decided to leave the couch issue alone. I made her a digging box full of shredded newspaper, and for now, that seems to have her attention– I will cross my fingers and hope, but if not, some blankets may be the second best option.

Thank goodness she has never peed on anything I own. lol.
