One of my foster kits has some crazy fur coming in that’s different from mom and all the others. Mom is a poor lionhead, and dad is a mystery. Here are some pics for comparison…any idea what fur type this is?! It reminds me of my rex dwarf rat.

        And the others:

And a video comparison can be seen here: http://s594.photobucket.com/albums/tt29/hokankai/?action=view¤t=DSCN3415.mp4

It looks like a baby Harlequin to me! My head almost exploded!

On second thought, it could also be a pattern I’m unsure of the name but Kinggoblin’s bun has that coloring.

I think his color is blue tort, but his fur isn’t straight…it’s wavy!

Edit: forgot to mention that his whiskers are wavy/curly too!

I’m thinking Rex as well especially if the whiskers are wavy/curly.

I looked up Rex rabbits and I got Astrex…but how can this bunny be an Astrex if the mom is a regular ol’ lionhead, the male is a mystery, but all the other kits have normal fur.

I’m gonna have to keep an eye on this little oddball. He’s the only blue tort (the others are white, black, and chinchilla) and now he’s got a weird hairdo

I don’t know what an Astrex is. I’m not a genetics specialist but I have seen rabbits from the same litter have all kinds of traits all over the place. The most likely answer is that all of these rabbits are mixes of some kind.

They are very young still. Bunnies change a lot as they grow, it’s really hard to tell final coat texture and ear type till they are a few month old.

Oh I know, but out of the 17 baby rabbits I’ve fostered so far that were normal fur types, this one is the only different, so we’ll see . The curly whiskers usually mean something’s different.

Its a rex mutt. Lionheads are often bred with rexs for the body shape/size, so it could just be a super recessive gene. Like, his great great great grandpa was a rex. Or something along those lines.

Yeah, I think he just got all the recessive genes. Either way he is freakin’ adorable. He’s even curlier today!

The little white one has some serious disapproval going on already, even with his eyes closed still

Looks like he’s gonna be a plushie bunny! That’s exactly how I picture my Stormy looking as a baby.
