For Georgie Girl

My girlfriend reminded me that when her phone was stolen last year, that almost all of her photos of her bunny, Georgie, were on it and therefore she lost them all.  I’m actually not sure if she even has a photo of her.  So I spent a while trying to find one photo I had of her and then remembered that it was here on this site.

I am going to be putting together a late Christmas/early Valentine’s day gift of the photo along with a poem I am writing.  But I’ve gotten so choked up with it that I had to stop.  So I’m putting the first rough draft here so that I can access it whether I’m at home or at work and can work on it between the tears.

 

To Gorgie B. Fluff

 

You were my furry nemesis

Trying your best to keep me from your muma

You’d grunt

You’d snort

You’d put your soft, cuddly body between me and her.

My first night asleep with you, you showed me who was boss

You marked me

You made me yours

And you captured my heart

 

Now knowing that I would take care of her as you would

You felt it safe to travel on

You left

We cried

But I respected your decision to go.

That week, we found the reason for your departure

Another bun, in need of help and the love that you knew so well.

 

Frightened and small, he clung to your muma

Now happy and safe in her arms

But you’re not forgotten

Never forgotten

And always missed

 

I expect you to be there on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge

Watching and caring for all those that we help

Leading us to them

Keeping them safe

And when the black rabbit comes for them

That you are there to welcome them

And show them all of the great binky places filled with sweet clover

 

Then, someday, when it is my time to pass over

I expect you to be there waiting for me

You’ll grunt

You’ll snort

And you’ll place your cuddly body between my arms

You’ll make me yours

And you’ll always have my heart.

That has to be one of the sweetest things I’ve ever read. You’ve got me all teared up here. I’m sure your girlfriend is going to be overwhelmed that you wrote such a sweet thing for her bun. What a great gift that will make.

That bun was a real cutie. How sad that she lost all of her pictures of him.

What a beautiful gift this will be! Be prepared for more tears when she reads this. Could she have emailed pics of Georgie to any friends? They may still have a copy of a photo somewhere also. Glad you found one here.
