        What foods can trigger molting?  I think Angora breeders use seeds, like linseed to purposely trigger molts. I used to give sunflower seeds and pepitas as a treat but don’t now as I though it caused continual light molting.

        Someone once mentioned here that rolled oats could too – anyone heard of that?

          Jersey – I have also heard of seeds/Oat mix triggering molting! So bizarre that I have that info stuck in my brain… I don’t know why it triggers molting molting though. Hmmmmmm.

            some seeds can trigger molting but i dont think rolled oats can. I give my rabbit rolled oats and it doesn’t make her molt.

              I give rolled oats as a treat too. My 2 looove them! I find that Rumball has this never ending shedding out of fine fur. His coat is quite dense.

                I’m surprised that any of these cause shedding since I understood it was based on the length of daylight and temperature and well, hormones.

                  My buns are all beginning to shed badly and looks like Pip may start to blow her coat soon and their only changes are oat hay and also the daylight is lengthening. As the daylight starts to fade in October, they will probably go through another shed as well. I had no idea though that foods could trigger it as well?

                    Coco looks stuck at Half Molt for like that last month – I was thinking today That I wished I could just get her to finish!

                      The reason I asked is I thought there might be something in their diet that causes a continual molt. Though, if there was a way to schedule a molt day and they get it over and done with, that would be Fab! Rumball is reasonably patient with my plucking at his coat.

                        Pip’s coat just started losing chunks last night…I think she heard us talking about it. 0_o;;;
                        *sigh* No wonder she’s been so crabby lately. This is like PMS for her.

                          Sammy is on an almost continuous diet of Oat Hay, though she had to skip a month, but it doesn’t seem to bring on a molt at all. Don’t know how that stuff differs from rolled oats.

                          In fact, I’m beginning to wonder what’s up with her, since she has still never blown her coat, or even had a regular major shed at all. She started to look a tiny bit scruffy two days ago, but I combed her twice and now she’s normal again. Do English Spots shed differently? I have concluded she’s 100% a Spotted Brit.
