Foam mats bad for buns?

  Hello. So earlier this day (28. October) I bought “Eva puzzle mats” so I could use it with sheets in my buns enclosure since he has red paws (hes a rex rabbit). Then I readed on some web pages that they are bad for babies and can cause health issues and so on. So that made me wonder are these bad for pets as well? If so then would these puzzle mats be harmful to use even when I cover those mats with few sheets/thin blankets? The mats I bought don’t smell good. I will just in case wash those before use. Any reply and information is welcome.

  From what I could find it’s not the EVA that’s toxic, but a liquid compound (formamide) used to make the mats more pliable. This formamide apparently evaporates rather quickly.   Lots of people use these types of mats for their buns, often covered with fleece blankets. But if or how rabbits are affected long term is of course really difficult to say.
