I posted pics of my new guy (Lily’s new mate) in the Lounge section.

Lily is in her big cage next to him.  I used an xpen that I had for his area.  The room they are in is carpeted.  Eventually I am going to connect two xpens together to make one big enclosure for them to share.

He’s not totally litterbox trained.  I did put the box in the corner he was peeing in and I noticed that he peed in the box during the night (with the exception of one pee spot elsewhere).  Yay!  The poopies are not making it in the box at all- I will continue to put them in the box ’til he learns that’s where they all go! hehe

Anyway, I have a thick blanket down over the carpet now for the flooring.  This is not going to cut it with his pee accidents.

What do you all recommend to use for flooring?  I would like to protect the carpeting underneath, but give them a comfortable space.

I want to go out and buy what I need today so they are all set up for the week.

Any suggestions would be great.  Thank you!

Maybe get a big piece of linoleum?  I looked through all the photos on the ‘Cool Habitats’ section and noticed that some were using that.

Can you get a cut piece of linoleum large enough to go down underneath both of their sides and underneath where the final shared location will be? It has to be large enough for both sides b/c you will be switching their pens every night during the bonding process, so linoleum under just his side will not be enough if he continues to have accidents. Also, when they’re bonded, just in case, you will have the additional peace of mind that the floor is protected. For over that you could get inexpensive rag rugs that are washable for a softer flooring. I think walmart sells them for about 2 bucks each.

Great ideas, Beka! I think this sounds like the best solution I can get this stuff all from the same shopping center too.

Also pick up some white vinegar if you don’t already have some, you can use that to disinfect any pee spots he does…

If you haven’t gotten what you needed yet, I would recommend using two sheets of plywood (2X4) then sticking stick tiles to them. That’s what we use for the floor and then I either use throw rugs or a big blanket. My first idea which would have been costly would be to get some of those rubber mats that you would use for under an office chair. But I couldn’t find any that were cheap enough to justify what I’d be using it for. I did happen to see some at Costco that were cheaper than Office Max.

I use vinyl sold from a large bolt at Joann Fabrics- I think other people cover tables or other stuff with it.  It comes in different thickness gauges and lasts for a long time- but is cheap enough to be disposable.  I have had bunnies for a little over a year- and i replaced the first piece at about 1 year.

I use fleece over it to keep the bunnies comfy (cheap fleece blankets) but it is nice becasue the pee can not soak into the carpet underneath- and for bonding bunnies expect some pee and poo wars.

I would go for the linoleum too, and your local home improvement store may have “leftover” pieces for sale as well as a carpet outlet store.

We got a 9×6 piece of nice looking tan square tile-look linoleum today. It was $27. Perfect size for what I needed.

I took your advice Beka and got a big rag rug at Walmart.

I can’t wait to get it all set up. It won’t totally be put together until Lily decides she wants to be with her new mate all of the time! Hopefully the bonding process goes smoothly. So far so good….

Ruffles, thanks for the suggestion- I took the lazy way out and just got one big piece.
