Floor advice, please!

 So, I had been using seagrass mats for my floor for the bunnies so they have grip in the x-pen.  My floor is very hard and very slippery for rabbits.  Well, of course naturally the bunnies ate the seagrass mats. That is not my problem, though.  They would PEE on them too and just make a total mess of them.  I was wondering if I bought those foam puzzle mats that they use for kids and other things and placed a sheet over them or something if that would work?  Valentine is a destructo-rabbit and will eat everything she can.  She doesn’t just nibble it she will eat it…consume…It worries me because I don’t want her to get a block or anything!  I have had to remove the rug that was in there because she ate a big massive hole in it.  I put down a sheet once and in minutes she destroyed that.  I am just looking for a solution that they won’t pee on or eat.  

 

Do you think it’s worth a try to use the puzzle mats with a sheet over? I may be able to try towels, as she didn’t seem to eat those, really.  She chewed a couple holes in it but I don’t think she ate it.  But then they peed on it.  =/  I don’t want them to get sore hocks or get hurt jumping from their house or anything.  

 

What do you think I should do?

If a destructo bun, puzzle mats will not do; foam will be very enticing.
What I did was buy an 8 x 6 area “rug” from BBB (before/after school special is was only about $20). It’s very thick and dense, thicker than normal carpet, not the kind people use for decorating. On top of this, I also put a thin flannel blanket on top. After almost two years, one area has worn down to a hole which I have temporary covered with a spare marble tile. Keep in mind this hole is only there because it’s under their x-pen and my bun thinks she’s digging a nice place to burrow (she works on it practically everyday).

You could try a wood base (durability) with linoleum or tile (for pee) over, and cover it with carpet/towels/blankets/etc (for comfort).

I tried the puzzle mats with Bindi and he started digging the interlocking tab out and chewing on it. Foam is too dangerous to give to a bunny who may chew and it’s pretty tempting for them. I use Snoozzy Mats for my buns flooring. They come in different sizes. Some bunnies would probably chew them too so anything new should be well supervised. They are great in protecting feet from sore hocks.

I bought the puzzle mat and put a sheet over it nicely…It’s been about a week and no one has eaten it! I am really surprised. They are nibbles in it but hardly at all (not the foam but the sheet) It doesn’t look eaten just nibbled. I think they appreciate the softness. lol They really love it. Valentine is so relaxed now that it’s there. Rascal is happy it’s there too. =D

I’ve been keeping an eye on it though. So far so good.

Java has the puzzle mat and we rotate between two bed sheets and a fleece blanket covering it. Java used to dig up whatever blanket was under him which resulted in him grabbed and ripping carpet too, but the puzzle mat has really helped. He only tried to pull up the blanket a couple of times, but it’s way too secure for him to even try.
