Holey moley…how far can YOUR bunny jump?? 0_o

When I was cleaning Pip’s cage this morning I took her ramp off the shelf so I could get the floor done without any interference from her (she tends to grab the paper towels and shred them), and without replacing it I was washing the shelf with the vinegar solution…

and she leaped OVER my hand and FLEW all the way across her night pen and into her litter box…which she was lucky was full of leftover hay and nice and cushy for her landing. I had to get off the step ladder and pick my jaw up off the floor.

She is okay, but I think we both got startled. Good thing she landed in the litter box, I think she had an accident after that…lolz. (Bunneh butt fluffy was a little damp.)

How far can a bunny safely jump without hurting itself, laterally or vertically?

          LOL

Kahlua can jump very far. She tends to be frightened of heights, so she’ll sit on the edge of the couch ‘sizing up’ her jump, then launch off the couch and land across the room!! Rupert can’t jump very high or anything and I’ve never seen Chuck jump. Kokanee could clear a baby gate!

I was just thinking about that this morning – I even fished out the little ramps that attach to the cage platform in case she might like to use them after all.

Sammy jumps from her cage platform into her litter box. She figured this out when she was a bit smaller, after trying to land in a few different spots. Discovered the soft landing and box sides to stop her. But she’s not enchanted with her platform and rarely uses it. Also, she’s only attempted to jump up on the couch once, onto my legs, and never anywhere else. It may be due to those funny legs of hers, or to the fact that she’s only 4 1/2 months old. I am constantly reminding myself that she’s a wee baby.

Maybe she emailed Pip and told her the litter is a soft landing – try it.

Kokanee my Cheeky does that too! It’s very cute. Sometimes when he’s being extra cute and fluffy I will have to scoop him up for some good cuddle time on the couch. He usually gets tired of me petting him after 10 minutes and he’ll start scoping out possible jump sites. He’ll get very close to the edge of the couch, go back and find another spot till he’s sure he’s got just the right spot then – JUMP! The furthest I’ve seen him go is literally 4 ft away, it’s very cool to watch. Then he’ll just come back and try to get back up on the couch (which for some reason he can’t get up onto).

lets just say i have the 48inch xpen…

lol I call Honey my little tigger, she’s always bouncing about.

I swear she’s made of rubber. Or has springs in her feet.

Maryann can hop over a 48″ xpen. She doesn’t clear it perfectly but she gets over it.

Fitzgerald freaked me out as he’s a big, loafing bit of fluff but one day wanted to get onto my bed and hopped over two boxes to get to it. It was about a 2 foot long by 2 foot high jump. May not seem like much but for him, wow.

Cotton Boo is a jumper.  When he wants to give me his happy jump  he will fly into the air 1 ft.  over the object he wants to land on.  Then he lands right on top.

Ruby well… lets just say she is more reserved in her jumping.  As in she hardly jumps.  But she sure does thump a lot.

sbb…FOUR FEET? Wow. That’s some serious air. 0_o (curbs Pip’s runway space a little more, just in case)

Well, BT, Ruby is a LADY. Jumping is simply NOT apropos! ^_^

lolz…Markus, I can just picture Fitz launching that sugarloaf of his into the air 2 feet! Hoo-hah! That must’ve been a sight! xD

Pam…we really MUST keep these bunnies away from the computer! What next? $500 worth of willow treats??

lolz…K&K if you’re reading my post before edit, I misread your post to say that Chuck was a jumper. My bad, sorry! ^_^ But that would be something, hm?

bunnyballet….OOOOHHHHH…the wonderful thing about tiggers, is tiggers are wonderful things! Their tops are made out of rubber! Their bottoms are made out of springs! They’re bouncy-pouncy-wouncy-pouncy-fun-fun-fun-fun-fun! But the most wonderful thing about tiggers is IIIIIIIIII’MMMMMMMM…the only one! (lolz..I’ve actually been singing that since “the big leap” and it’s making both Pip and my daughter mental!)

Sorry just had to do it. ^_^

Oh, and if I can ever get it uploaded to Photobucket or YouTube or wherever, I have a funny 40 second vid of Pip in her pen giving the ultimate disapproval. Thanks to my dial-up though, it’s been hard to get it onto the net.

That is so funny! Fang can do at least 3 feet, he’s hopped up onto my bed which has one of those euro mattresses, so you have to climb up onto it (I suppose I should just stop being cheap and buy one of those step thingys for the bed). He has also cleared the top of the sofa. He also likes to jump straight up from a sitting posioton like one of those’pop’ toys we had as kids. It’s seriously freaky.

The only time Smokey will jump is to get Cheerios, or to sit on the rocking chair in my bedroom.

All of your bunnies are so cute!!

Ok this reply is really late and kind of random – but my black and white guinea pig, Bullit is a jumper! It’s weird… I’ve seen piggies “popcorn” before, but she could be in the gp olympics! I’ve seen her hop a guinea pig pen before that was like 10 inches tall… I’m not even sure how it’s possible. And today I was giving her a bath in the laundry room sink, which is probably around 2 feet deep and she nearly hopped out! I couldn’t stop laughing!

You know, Rachel, I came to this post today and it nearly made me fall off my chair. I think your piggie was chasing Pip around outside in my yard in my dreams last night!
I was trying to catch Pip and someone’s black and white bunny/piggie from here on the boards (I’d thought it was Beka and Max at first, but the bunny kept changing into a piggie) and every time I got them corralled in the house I’d turn around and they were chasing each other around the yard again in the snow!
That is too incredibly strange that you posted about your guinea pig and I just noticed this today! 0_o I am completely worn out from all the stuff going on with my dog’s surgery this week, so I must be tired enough to have totally odd dreams. (BTW, didn’t realize you had a guinea pig besides Frankie.)

the highest Dallas has ever jumped is 2ft, he’s not much of a jumper really! Duncan has jumped over 3ft
I think they are just trying to give us all a heart attack!!!

Yeah… I just got my 12 week old lop the other day and built him a pen that was one cube grid high. I was sitting in my bedroom and all of the sudden i see Kaow peeking into the room. “Hi Kaow!”
I decided to add another grid cube in height, only to find Kaow not in his pen the next morning.
On to three grid cubes high…if he is outside of his cage pen tomorrow I will be flabbergasted.

That’s got to be frustrating! 0_o I get nervous enough if my bunnies stand on their hind legs in their exercise pens, because it’s only a hop, skip and a jump…literally…till they can fly over the top. And it’s at least a three foot high pen.

Zipfelmuetze, I love your avatar. That’s from Totoro, isn’t it? Do you like anime?

Hope to see some pix of your lop soon…how do you pronounce his name? I have a mini lop myself and he was my first bunny. I love bunnies with lop ears and have always been partial to them.
