I’ve been thinking about getting my bun a fleece blanket to snuggle in and have done some light researching online. What I have found is that fleece blankets seem to be safe because they don’t have threads and rabbits that eat a lot of hay can easily pass whatever they ingest.. but are all types of fleece safe? When I went to Joann’s there were anti-pill, blizzard, luxe… many different types of fleece. Does anyone have a preference? I have an anti-pill fleece I keep on my bed and Xerxes has nibbled into it before but only when he digs. If i get one to keep in his pen should i avoid certain types or colors?? Any experience tips will help!

Fleece is good – its normally recommended because it doesn’t fray when they chew it, so they’re less likely to ingest it.

I think any type of fleece is fine to be honest. Do watch and make sure that he’s not consuming large chunks of it when you first give it to him though

Also be warned, he might well pee on it rather than snuggle! One of my bunnies loves fleece blankets, one is indifferent and tends to pee on them, and one absolutely hates them and shoves them out of the way so they don’t touch her at all!

The main line to draw with fleece is whether or not your rabbit chews on it, rather than the type. If your rabbit chews and eats fleece, best not give it at all. If there’s only digging and snuggling, then it’s fine!

I buy the cheapest fleece blankets, usually from IKEA. It’se is a bunny yet born that doesn’t chew holes in fleece. No use buying anything fancy, because even if your bun doesn’t eat the fleece, they will make holes in it. Bam’s favorite blanket looks like a night sky full of stars, there’s like a thousand holes in it.
