I had been noticing Hermione working on a certain spot on her back for a while whenever she groomed. I soon found a random clump of hair on the floor, but I didn’t investigate. Just recently, I found a spot on her back with no hair (about the size of a nickel)…and I’m assuming it’s fleas since I see a few black dots close to the skin.  It is high time for her nails to be clipped, and I’m afraid that she’s scratched the hair off.  In any case, (if I’m right about it being fleas) I need to know what sort of ointment to put on it.

you’ll need a prescription from the vet. there is one that is safe and one that is not safe, and i’m not sure which is which… but someone else should be along soon.

You’ll have to contact your rabbit savy vet about what to apply to get rid of the fleas. There are some brands for cats and dogs that can kill rabbits so you have to be very careful.

Also here is a test you can do to determine if it’s fleas for sure. Try to grab a couple of the little black dots. Wet your fingers and rub the dots in the moisture. If it turns to blood then this is flea poop. Kinda gross but it’s a good way to know for sure.

Here is a link to which flea products are OK for rabbits.  Defintely sounds like fleas to me.

Well, it could be fleas or it could be fur mites.

I use Revolution for fleas and for ear mites but I’m not 100% sure if they are good for fur mites. It is perfectly safe for rabbits (and guinea pigs) but you must purchase it from the vet.

HI whatever you do DO NOT PUT FRONTLINE on your bun. it can kill them the vets give out advantage for buns the kitten size. and of course go to vets with bun to be sure what it is. the over the counter stuff may also kill them  apparantly Revolution is safe if people are using it but I never heard to do that. learn something new everyday.
