I took Pacey to the vet Saturday because he has fleas from the dogs. They checked him over to make sure he had fleas and gave me a tube of flea medication and instructed me to put 1-2 drops high enough so he couldn’t lick it off. I didn’t notice or think to ask what kind it was. I just now picked up the tube. It is Advantage for dogs 55+ lbs. I DO NOT want to use this on him at all since 1 it is for dogs and 2 it is for large dogs.

Is this safe? If not I am taking it back tomorrow to change it.

Cat Advantage is usually what is prescribed for bunnies- I guess you could call and ask your vet when they sold you such a large dose for a little bunny.  They might have a reason- but it is hard to determine an effective dose by giving 1-2 drops, when typically is is based on weight and the entire contents is applied when used for cats and dogs.

Unfortunately the vet was not open today so I still don’t know if it is safe to use on him or not. If only I knew someone around me who had kittens and used revolution since I already know the dosage for that lol.

My vet has recommended (and I have used) both Advantage(several times) and Revolution, but the Advantage, I was told to use the Kitten formula and Cat formula (under 14 pounds) , but I was not using the whole packaged dose. the vet told me the correct dosage (I just can’t remember exactly.

I would really douuble check whether you were supposed to use the dog formula, especially when there are kitten and cat forumulas that should do the trick (WITH your vets dosage advice)

Advantage is supposed to be better at killing fleas, but Revolution can kill fleas and mites all at once, so sometimes that’s why revoltuion is used too.

Was the medication for your dogs but did the vet say to just put a bit on your bun as well, or was it actually prescribed for Pacey and none of the dogs? Maybe they thought you were going to use it for your dogs also?

No my dogs use Frontline and the vet knows that is a big no no. I haven’t been able to get to talk to them since yesterday there was an accident right in front of the office and today the phone lines are down so I am getting ready to just go up there in about 10 minutes. Unfortunately every time you want to see this vet or talk to anyone you are required to bring the animal in and pay a office visit fee which is $65 a visit. Hoping the new vet in town is a rabbit vet lol.

Back from the vet. The vet was busy so I didn’t bother sitting there and waiting I just traded the dog Advantage to kitten Revolution and got the dosage instructions.
