So today was time to clean Fiver’s bum and feet again, plus get his anals and trim toenails. Always a fun job.

Anyway, his fur on his feet is just falling out.  He still has plenty to cover them, but…do bunny feet shed? His back is going through a shed again, so I’m hoping it’s just part of that. His glands were full of molasses-like goo, but not as bad (smelling) as last time I did them. His private parts look sore though, and possibly had a little white bump on one spot. Not sure if this is a blister? Maybe the Y/N is irritating him a bit?

His heels are terrible. One side looks as if a blister popped and left a crater on it and it’s very red but not bleeding. I haven’t seen him favor this foot at all and didn’t realize it was so worn. We applied Heal Rx to both after cleaning them up thoroughly. His nails were atrociously long again after having just been clipped last month. Amazing how fast his grow.

But he enjoyed a long pet session after his ‘spa day’ and seems quite content. But as I was feeling his jaw to see if there’s any abnormalities, he is opening his mouth wide and twisting his tongue around as if he’s got something stuck behind it. This first started a few months ago, sporadically, after he would eat he would do this. He seems a bit sore on his left side. Sooo…appointment time. I’m thinking maybe now all his tummy trouble might be because of his teeth.
Has anyone ever seen their bun move his mouth like this? He looks like a camel getting ready to spit.

Well that’s good. He’s really adjusted well with the handling don’t you think?
So he’s on the YN since last week? No improvement on the poopy problem yet? I’m wondering – did he ever have a fecal float done?

I see Jersey doing mouth actions and it seem like bits get stuck here and there and she’s trying to move them with her tongue. I’m always speculating about her teeth. What’s Fivers hay intake like? Has that reduced any? Maybe that could be a clue as to whether tooth troubles are present.

Jersey also had bald patches on her feet but only visible when I pull fur aside. Her heel area is calloused and gets little sore on them. She grooms a bit on the side of her feet too. Sorry to go on, I just noticed the mouth thing and feet things was similar to what you’re seeing. Osprey mentioned one of his got heel problems and they found it was from carpet or the mats even though you’d think that would protect their feet more. I suppose it can be abrasive when they move on it. What does Fiver have in his habitat?

He’s still difficult to catch and gets all stressed out when I have to grab him…but he’s always been pretty good about sitting still once caught. I get a few good rear leg kicks, but I don’t flip out about it as much anymore and once he’s got them out of his system, we’re good to go pretty much.

No fecal float yet…but I’ll mention it to the vet.

He still eats like a horse. Literally. I put hay in his basket to overflowing and it’s gone by morning/evening cleanup. He also gets a small portion of pumpkin each night…about a single ice cube tray size. I have the benebac to give him if he gets real messy, but so far he’s doing much better with the mushy poo stuff since switching out the feline pine. He must have been eating it.

He’s got these lovely mattresses from the UK in his hab, but they are getting a little worn and are not as cushy as they were new. About time I got some better ones.

BTW…I forgot to mention his happy adoption day on the 20th. He’s been with us for 2 years now. Doesn’t seem like it’s been that long… I’m hoping to get him together with Mimzy, but we’ll have him seen first to be sure he isn’t contagious.
Mimz needs a checkup too…and he and Pip need nail trims…since I can’t see the darker nails well enough to do them myself and the daughter is not confident with her own clipping abilities…so it’s going to be a busy car when we get all packed up! ~_~

Oh, poor Fiver. I’m not sure what the white bump on his privates is. If it was something that was ongoing, I would suspect vent disease/bunny syphilis (easily treatable), but that would seem odd in his case.

I’m sorry to hear about his feet, sounds like he has a cushy hang out — how is he with his litterbox habits? Does he ever have a tendency to sit where it could be wet? I know some bunnies like to hang in their litterboxes. If that’s the case with Fiver, maybe that is what is causing irritation on his feet and genitals???

OP!!! I just realized…I’m sorry…that you had said his nails were really long, that may answer the redness and irritation answer. Now that he’s had his spa day, just keep an eye on those so he heals properly.

I’ve never had a bunny do the “camel” expression quite as dramatic as you are describing. Rucy, who did have teeth issues, would get food stuck up in areas of her mouth, and she’s move her mouth around (closed mouth) but I could tell she seemed to be fishing for what was stuck and then she’d find it and start chewing on it.

Let us know what your vet says!

Healing Heel Vibes and Happy Adoption Day!

Has it really been 2 years?!!!!! 😮

That’s promising that he’s improving with poopy butt now the FP is out! If you’re bathing him less, his foot fur might improve too. Fingers crossed.
Have you noticed any improvement with Mimzys nose since removing the FP from the room?

Sadly I don’t seem anything different with Mimzy’s nose…but it may take awhile for the effects to fully clear his system. I think it’ll be the same with Fiver.

Thanks, BB…yeah it might just be how much Carefresh I add to the box. Trying to lessen that as well, but not so much that he has to sit on the hard litter. He only pees in one spot and I notice he does sit in it a lot. His hay is on the end of the box away from where he pees and he likes to sit there and munch. Maybe I can retrain him where to eat his hay?

I really think he’s got something going on with that mouth. I wish he’d let me look in it, but that’s a no-go.

He needs a bigger hab. They all do. *nods* Working on it. I hope to get them all in one spot eventually and that will be a sweet day with lots of piccies. ^_^
