Fiver’s “Spa Day”

Well surprisingly it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be…but I do have a few scars to show for it.

The worst part is the bunny wrangling. He is SUCH a squirmer and often, like a bar of soap, he just squirts right out of my grasp and I have to start the cooing and cajoling process all over again.

His nails were MUCH too long. I was surprised he didn’t take an eye out scratching with them.

However, I really need a nicer pair of clippers. These tend to leave sharper edges than I like and he is NOT going to sit still for PediPaws treatment…although he might like the ‘seaweed wrap and the massage with the stones’…lol. (sorry, Dr. Who reference)

His fur is coming out again. He has down-to-velvet bare patches on his back now from the base of his ears to half an inch above his tail. The rest of him is still all shaggy and hard to get a grip on. It’s ranging from 78 to 83 degrees Fahrenheit in my room unless I put up a fan. This is because we had to split the house into two sections with a heavy door so Hello Kitty and my two cats don’t kill each other. Result: front of house now gets even warmer than it did before and the bunnies and I feel like we’re locked in a sauna! I have to keep opening the front door to let the cold in to keep us comfortable. Large water bottles are being emptied at a rate of one every day and a half. Luckily it cools down at night while Kitty is in the boiler room and the door is opened. Otherwise, I have to do my best to keep the bunnies cool.

I can hear Mimzy clacking his metal ball as I type…clackety-clackety-clack…..time for a freeze bottle methinks.

So besides a recommendation on a good nail clipper…can someone please re-post the link to the Hairbuster comb? I tried getting one a while back, but the link wouldn’t work for me at their checkout, so I need to go back and try it again…if I can find it. ^_^

The title makes me smile. I see him with a towel turban and white robe and slippers.

So has Fiver forgiven you? I have 2 scratches on my chest from nail clipping. I don’t wear jewellry but I’m thinking a big pendant should cover it up.

Forgiven? Hm. Well, the cookie and carrot slice disappeared off the floor of his pen, so I think so. *peeks at him* But I’m still getting bunny butt when I come in the room.
Yup. Scratches down my right arm, pretty deep ones too. Luckily it was only the right, my left arm is supposed to be made of fine china according to my doctor. lmao. The funny thing was, after I put him down, I grabbed a Kleenex and furiously began wiping the fur off my face and he started washing his face at the same time. My daughter said we both made the same movements simultaneously. I wish we’d gotten it on video, it was hilarious! Timing couldn’t have been better.

I got tired of gettign mauled to death by Monkey when I had to give her those eye drops awhile back. She goes off to the vet for nail trims! lol

Our local shelter actually does “SpaDiDah” days, where they do groomings, nail trims, and bunny massages as well as themed photos of bunnies, guinea piggles and a few cats.  I used to take Pepper all the time before she got sick – all funds raised go to the shelter and it’s easier if they are mad at the volunteers instead of me,.

78 – 83F in part of the house? (sticks out tongue -pant, pant, pant)  I would be completely grumpy in that temperature – I’d have to make an Ice necklace.     Ironic that you are in one of the coldest states in the U.S. during one of the coldest months out of the year and you have to be stuck in a hot box of a room.

I really like the hairbuster too! It’s one of my favorites.  

As far as clippers go, I did get the dogmatic care clippers (scissor style).  It’s a clipper WITH a flexible mini flashlight attached.  It’s helpful with dark nails to have the flashlight right there. You’d think it would be able to work WHILE you cut, but I have a hard time positioning it just right at the moment of cut, but it is convenient to have right there that I can push with it over with my finger, see the quik then I mark where I want to cut with the end of my finger. I can’t for the life of me remember where I got it from though.  It was years ago.

and for now CONGRATULATIONS on the successful nail clipping session – you have the battlescars to prove it! LOL

dont you love battle scars?? penny got my collarbone once and i had someone in my class who was concerned that i was being abused! bunny-abuse, definitely. i use kitten nail clippers. they dont leave sharp edges because the way the scissors clip. try those, maybe?

Well, the good thing about rex nails is that they are easy to see since they don’t have all the fur around them.

Do you think that comb will work on the rex fur? Just curious since their fur is so short.

I’m not sure about the comb for him, but I’m going to give it a (gentle) try and if he reacts to it the same way he does to the grooming glove, we’re going to have a bit of a tussle on our hands. I’ll have to go back to the wet hand technique then.
Once again though, the site keeps telling me I haven’t input my email addy and won’t take my order. I’m going to have to mail it in. Boo.
Short of maybe using an unused nit comb, I just don’t know how to get all that fluff off him. He must be so uncomfortable.

Gee, BB, I sure wish you had a spare of those nail clippers, they sound choice! ^_^ I may just have to get myself one of those musher’s headlamps and strap it to my forehead so I can see what I’m doing! xD

MB…OH yeah…I’ve gotten some STRANGE looks when the bunny scratches are visible to the general public. I just shrug it off and tell them I live with a Sasquatch. (which you could believe if you could see my husband)

I have permanent scars, not from my buns but from others, on my chest, tummy and arm. They are devil claws when in action lol

Mimz-I know your going to think I’m a nut but nail dremmels (the real ones-not pedipaws) are the greatest. Beyond Just get ’em used to the sound then burrito or trance and go to town THey like them SO much better then clippers

K&K are these nail dremmels something that can handle the whole nail or are you only to use it after you’ve clipped the majority of it off first?
Honestly Fiver did surprisingly well. And he was so glad to have those claws off his poor widdle toes. He looked like one of those old Chinese men with the long beards and the nails that make the Guiness Book. 0_0

I’m trying to get my daughter to draw me a picture of Fiver in his robe and turban with his four feet propped on pillows and cotton balls stuck between his toes. ^_^ lolz
