I’ve only seen him do this two times. He’ll have had his out time from his pen and he likes to stretch out on the towel I put over his door (Marchioro cage) and prepare for a bit of a rest. He will suddenly start bobbing his head forward, short and quick, and as his head comes forward, his teeth will click together-without him opening his mouth, so it’s not like a real snap.

He doesn’t even seem to be aware that he’s doing it. And then when I come close to see what’s up with him, he sits up real quick and looks at me like he just woke up from a nap…but he hasn’t been asleep.

Any ideas? I’m flummoxed. He was just seen by the vet and she totally checked him over…nothing really wrong with him besdies those nasty heels of his.

That sounds strangely familiar, MM. I think it may be a Mini Rex thing. I think Spockie did it. He may actually be dozing slightly and dreaming. It also may be a way of checking the surroundings for safety for a nap (whiskers making sure all is well, teeth to warn off bugs or intruders), but frankly I’m not sure.
I am pretty sure it’s not a sign that there’s anything wrong with him at all. Probably the opposite.
