I am taking Dorian and Miu in for nail trims and wellness checks on Tuesday and have heard of vet visits causing issues with bonds so want to make sure I do things to minimize it.

I was going to take them in my old cat carrier, should I bring Dorian’s soft carrier as well. I am not sure if it is big enough.  They both can fit and sort of turn around and stretch out. The vet is about an hour drive each way (though hopefully shorter if traffic is not bad) and last time there was a decent amount of waiting.

I would bring hay, water and treat for after. Oh and extra puppy pads for the carrier. Anything else I should bring? Do I need to do anything when we get home to make sure their bond is okay?

        Thanks forany advice!

I must admit, I’m a bit spoiled with buns who never have bond issues after vet visits. I can take one or both and they’ve never been negatively affected.

I always put a handful of hay in the carrier, for longer trips I recommend some wet leafy greens that they’re used to, rather than water. A water bowl or bottle can be dangerous if you stop suddenly. I take them both in the one carrier, it’s pretty cosy but safer that way, and I use vet bed in the bottom to absorb messes.

I’ve never had issues either! Usually you hear about issues when one goes to the vet and the other doesn’t, but I’ve never had issues with that either.

The car ride in the carrier together is usually good for the bond. And it’s fine that they can’t move around much, it’s actually safer that way. From what you described that sounds like a good size for them.

One thing I like to do after any trip is to just let them hang out in the carrier once I get home for 15-20 minutes before letting them out.

I’m sure they will do fine! Honestly you prob don’t need to deal with water for a 1 hour drive (it tends to leak while driving and most buns won’t drink while the car is moving anyway). You can give them some extra wet salad when you get home if things take a long time at the vets.

It’s 1hr each way, I would offer to them when I am waiting for the vet. I just have a water bottle and empty bowl, nothing in the carrier itself. At least that’s what I did with just Dorian. Wet leafy greens is a good idea though!

Thanks both of you, I suspect these two will be fine, other than not enjoying the car ride and having their nails trimmed.  Though Dorian is always a little angel for the vet tech and a drama bun for me. I just kept reading warnings about it so thought it was super common.

Yeah, all the horror stories tend to get amplified on the internet, but issues pretty rare in general, especially when they travel in the same carrier together. 🙂

They snuggled at the vets for support.  Dorian was the golden child and Miu has “is a handful” down on her permanent record.  She also has two lower molars that are a tad long, though more something to keep an eye on at this point. Hopefully they will fully recover from the stress in a bit. Well Dorian ate all the greens and washing so more worried about little Miu, though I  snuck her some pellets while Dorian isn’t paying attention and she is picking at them.

Aww glad it went OK! Bun Jovi is also “a handful” at the vets, I’m sure they will be back to normal soon!

They have been extra snuggly. Especially Miu. She’s usually pretty haphazard about returning groomings, but I spotted her a couple times today being a lot more thorough. Dorian definitely doesn’t like going to the vets, but she was just terrified, hense the handful. I think she really appreciated having him to snuggle up against and he didn’t mind at all. Glad they are both healthy and they are both recovered from the ordeal.
