Well ladies and gents,a work collegue of mine has told me of a friend who is sadly having to give her female bunny away, and i said that if all went well, and they got on well, i’d take her.
Now, Merlin has always been pretty independent, hes a free roamer and about two years old and has always been content with his own company. I’ve told the other owner that he would have to be neutered first, but can anyone give me some tips on bonding? I’ve read through the bonding page on the site but still a bit anxious. My plan is to first introduce them and see how they get on before taking on the new bunny. If they fight, thrn absolutely no,but of they are ok…what then??

You’ll have to wait until both bunnies are spayed/neutered and recovered from their surging hormones before doing any bonding. A few weeks may be alright, but I would probably wait a month. It’s extremely difficult to bond bunnies that are hormonal and hormones can often go nuts after altering.

You’ll want to first start in a 100% neutral area. Somewhere your bunny never goes. Start by giving them a small space and gradually increasing the space as they progress. A lot of people start in the bathtub. If there is aggression, you can do some stress bonding (like car ride or basket on washing machine). A lot of bonders will swap litter boxes every day to get the bunnies used to the others smell. There are lots and lots of tips and tricks but each situation is different. We can help you as you go along.
