Hello! I’ve read this forum a lot but I’ve never posted!

I have two Holland Lops (one is a mini), both boys and both neutered. Beanie is one year old, and Mochi(the mini) is around 7 months and was neutered almost exactly one month ago. I’ve just now started the bonding process and I’m confused on Mochi’s behavior. Neither has shown any aggression at any point, they’ve been meeting through their bars since I first brought Mochi home and its always been laying next to each other and grooming through the pen. While supervising them together, Beanie is very relaxed and will groom Mochi and otherwise seems very content. On the other hand Mochi is very alert and is constantly trying to mount Beanie.

Beanie will just hop away every time Mochi attempts to mount him and I am constantly hovering to remove Mochi. They will eat treats calmly next to each other but once they’re done Mochi will continue to try and mount Beanie while following him around. I’m wondering if anyone has had this situation with two neutered boys. I was thinking that Mochi had finally calmed enough post neuter since his litter box habits are now immaculate and he’s been cleared by the vet as fully recovered (in addition to it being a month since neuter in a couple days). I’ve been searching multiple forums and I just haven’t been able to find a situation similar to mine (but I also could have missed it).

        Any advice?

        Best,
        Jules

Mounting is really normal during bonding sessions, especially in the early stages. 🙂

If it doesn’t cause fighting, then allow it to happen. If Mochie mounts Beanie’s face, then spin Mochie around so he is in the “correct” position. If Beanie runs away, stop Mochie from chasing after a couple seconds.

After more time in the bonding sessions, the mounting should start to calm down, but you may even continue to see some mounting once they are bonded.
