So my bun Sweetie has started shedding. I noticed this when petting her with slightly wet hands and having a huge ammount of fur stick to me! I started gently pulling out the lose fur and she seemed to enjoy the attention. I remembered that I had some clean horse brushes and grabbed those to brush her. her reaction to the brushes was better than I expected  so i went to town!

But now…that lovely light coloured fur in her picture is coming out leaving a much darker colour. and since i was pulling the fur out she’s got these ugly ugly patches of light and fluffy fur mixed with the dark smoother fur

Oops! I wont be doing that again! I will add pictures soon!

        P.S.

Noticed my bun doing the oddest thing once in a while since i’ve had her. She sits in an upright position with her head tucked in and her eyes are wide open but like completely blank, her ears are flat against the back of her head and she sits there for quite some time not moving at all except for the slightest rocking motion

Is this that bunny open eyed power sleep?

Monkey takes quick naps sitting upright all the time.. totally normal for her.

The rocking is what strikes me a really odd

slightly, she’s so little and close to the ground its hard to tell sometimes. i think its a balance thing, to keep themselves upright while sleeping…

Don’t worry, the rocking is completely normal. Lash, my first bunny, would tuck herself into a furry ball with her forefeet curled under her chest and her hind legs tucked under her bottom, level with my hip, on my bed, and she would rock away!!  She would gradually come to closing her eyes in this position and her closed eyes would twitch while she rocked her head every which way.  I think they do this when they are in dreamland, probably dreaming of running and being active. No worries.  Lash lived to be 7 and a half years old which outlived her normal lifespan for Netherland Dwarfs by two and a half years!

Yep, definitely sleeping. Scanning is when they bob their heads up and down actively while trying to judge depth perception or checking out something new. What you’re describing is like a power nap! Otto will often get rocking fairly hard when he does this – it’s so funny.

Pepper sleeps with her eyes open, and rocks a little sometimes.   It creeped me out until I got used to it.

If your bunny is shedding, then PLEASE keep grooming or brushing, even though it makes them look funny.  The more loose hair you get off them the less they can ingest which could cause serious stomach problems because rabbits can’t throw up hairballs.

The wide eyed rocking deffinately creeped me out lol
As for the shedding I brush her with a soft rubber brush and she likes it!
I try to do it once a day

It’s fine, you didn’t do anything wrong. That’s totally normal, what’s happening with your bun. She’s not that old, right? She’s just losing her baby fur. The baby fur is fluffy and light colored, while the adult coat is smoother and darker. While they go through the transition from baby coat to adult coat, they have mixed patches, but that will disappear and it will be all of the darker color. But that’s totally normal and it happens to all bunnies. And you pulling out her loose fur did NOT cause the mixed patches.

Here are some pictures as promised so long ago lol keep in mind that about 2 weeks ago it was much muuuch worse lol!

Can see it pretty well in the one below..the darkest fur on top, the medium colour around it and the patches of white still left over.

Have YOU kissed your bun-bun today?
