We had two bonding dates with a bun at the humane society, went reasonably well.

So we bring him home and try the first time solo, (without an experienced bonder) and did not go well. Put them both in a neutral area, and essentially all that happened was she was sneaking nips at his rear end the whole time.

Any thoughts on my next step.

What would happen when she would nip? Did it escalate? Was she pulling out fur?

If it was just little nips that didn’t lead to anything else than it doesn’t sound bad, just normal bonding stuff. What’s your long term plan for bonding these two?

The first few times he basically ignored her, the last couple nips he ran into my lap.

We are keeping the sessions short, about 15 mins or so. The first attempt was in a bathroom neither had been in. Today we plan on trying a different area that’s a little larger.

As far as long term, was just hoping to increase the lenght of supervised sessions as they get along better

A little nudging/nipping isn’t a big worry. I would just keep on with sessions in a neutral area and see how things progress.

Well now things got a little worse, the moment we set the female down she lunged at the male taking some of his fur off.

Been suggested that I switch xpen so they get used to each other’s smell. Is that a bad idea?

Most of the time switching habitats can be really helpful so I don’t think it’s a bad idea to give it a try. You can also, on a smaller scale, switch litter boxes which is what I usually do when I’ve bonded.

One thing to keep in mind is that on occasion this can increase aggression between rabbits because they feel like they’re being “invaded”. So it’s just something to keep an eye out for.

We switched the habitats, I can tell the females is pretty upset, the male just plopped down and stretched out.

Think it’s interesting the bonding dates went so well before we moved the male in, now the exact opposite. The joys of territorial bunnies

They are fighting now, going to give them a break for a couple of days
