so i wrote some posts about my and my sis rabbits. i wrote how they had gunky eyes, and were sneezing and loosing fur with cuncks of skin on it. (same problem with both rabbits) we took one rabbit to the vet , so its the price for one, and we no what is wrong with both. the vet said this about the rabbit:

rabbits sneeze. nothings wrong. ALOT of rabbits get the eye clog up thing, so all we need to do is keep it clean, and have eye drops for them.

He said he couldnt see any signs of mites or ring worm, and that over all, our rabbits are VERY healthy, not to fat or skinny, and are in good shape, with nothing to worry about. im happy that we took them in, so that i wouldnt be worring about them.

Good I’m glad you took one in. Thanks for keeping us posted! How’s it going anyway?

Well, I’m not certain I agree that alot of rabbits get their eye’s clogged up – has this vet ever seen rabbits before? I don’t think he should be generalizing about this. There are many reasons for a clogged eye and it is something that you should have a vet look at – it could be dental, it could clogged, it could be because of an upper respiratory problem – I honestly do not see many rabbits with an eye that is clogged up so I really don’t agree with that statement.

Also, I don’t think seeing one rabbit of the two is the right thing either – no 2 rabbits are alike.

I applaud you for taking your one rabbit in but one for the price of 2 – well, there’s just no such thing really.

              ^.^
they were both sneezing, and had an eye clog, but i understand, that it might be diff. yes hes seen rabbits befor. he said the eye clog for OUR rabbit is from the dust and the fur floating around getting into somthing (forget what its called)
we are gonna pick up eye drops tomorro for them :3
they are outside gettin some fresh air right now.

I’m finding the fact that he’s dismissing that they’re losing fur with chunks of skin really rather disturbing. That’s not normal at all, and if he didn’t find mites or some other reason for that, he should be looking for other possible reasons. I also agree that you should have brought both even if they appeared to be having the same symptoms. What if the bunny you brought isn’t as far along disease-wise as the other one, so you’ve gotten a good diagnosis when in fact if you had brought the other one maybe he would have noticed something wrong? I suggest doing a follow up if you don’t see any improvement shortly.

yeah. well he started pullin out fur, and it was fine. it was that one day when we got chuncks of fur, and decided to take them in. but when she got there, there was no clumps. i dont know.
i have been cleaning their eyes, and its going good. she does sneeze ocationaly, but besides that shes fine. i have been giving her healthy things, and if nothing fixes in a while, she will go back.

Well, most vets would flush the tear duct and give eye drops – it sounds like the tear ducts are clogged and if he flushed the tear ducts he could see if the stuff that is clogging the tear ducts is infected or not. I would especially be concerned if the chunks of hair that you are pulling out are around the eye area where the eye is tearing up.

its good that you took them, i know it is expensive to go to the vets but its just one of those things, if they need to go you have to take them and worry about the cost later.

oh happy bday, a second opinion is always good, plus asking round you may find a vet who is more confident or better value or whatever

Panic… i applaud you for making the effort to take your bun to the vet.  that is such an important part of bunny (pet) ownership.  that’s what we’ve been telling you all along, and that is why we really discourage children and young teenagers from getting rabbits, b/c adults need to be involved in the process.

here is the link to the HRS vet list  http://www.rabbit.org/vets/vets.html

i think i remember you saying you’re in Canada… scroll to the bottom of the page and they list the Canadian vets by Province.  click on your location and you should be able to find one.  you may need to travel a bit further, but it’s worth it for someone who knows what they are doing and won’t just look at your bunny, but also try to heal your bunny.  call the vet and tell them what the first vet did (not much) and see if they recommend you bring them (both) in.  you might want to ask for a full exam for both (bloodwork, fecal tests, etc.) b/c that will pick up if anything is wrong that the vet cannot see.

i am glad you took the bunny to a vet, but wish it had been a more satisfactory experience. I would also encourage you to make some calls and find a different vet, as Beka suggested. Since rabbits are still considered an exotic , many vets do not know how to properly care for them. It is important to see a vet that is familiar with procedures and rabbit care, who also sees a number of them.

                                  happy almost birthday!
