So….Kahlua has been being a jerk to Kokanee…I’m not sure if it’s Rupert, or horomones or Kokanee being sick or what, but Kahlua’s been chasing her around humping her, poor Kokanee is trying to be gentle, but she’s had to nip her a few times…THAT DOES IT! I asked my mom to book her in for a spay on Friday, so hopefully in one week Kahlua will be spayed! In the mean time I’m not seperating them, as Kokanee is being gentle and able to evade Kahlua…and Dave’s been home lately so they aren’t alone ever, he’d hear if anything happened.
And…We did our first real bonding session with kahlua and rupert last night. Rupert is a ‘fear biter’ and tries to “nip before he gets nipped” he even charges and growls if he sees the girls while he’s in his cage!! So, we lined the tub with towels and bits of parsley and had spray bottles of water to discourage nipping. First they ignored each other, then rupert tried to nip her a few times when she came close. We sprayed him. He stopped… We even got them to huddle up a few times. Kahlua DOES NOT groom and she lightly licked his ear once!! No real fighting, partly I think because we discourage it, but also, I think rupert is just a nipper, not a latcher-onner!
I’ll try to get some pics/vid tonight so you guys can give your opinions on next steps or hints or “don’t do that’s”
But it went a LOT better then I thought it would!
And…Here are some cute pics
for no reason at all!!
