All Living Things – fiesta puffs, I was uncertain whether I should present it before my rabbit while looking at the ingredients included “corn” yet I ended up getting it anyways, so I’m practically stuck with it and don’t want to hassle my parents to take me back just to return a treat packaging ( granted they will return it as long as I have the receit and the bag is unopened ); I looked at the reviews of said product and many agreed it’s a decent thing for small animals, it’s an encouraging chewing instincts type of treat. I know rabbits can’t have corn, or at least, its solid form, will it be okay if I give it to him if it has corn included as an ingredient? If not, I may end up throwing it away. I’ve given him another variety of treat that helps wear down his teeth that also included corn and he was pretty alright with it.

Okay, so I googled “All Living Things Fiesta Puffs” just to make sure I knew what you were talking about. This is probably a personal thing, but I’ve always seen those in stores and I won’t buy them for Wilson. I don’t trust em, cause of coloring and general texture/ingredients…. however, I’m kind of over protective of him and over analytic of the things I buy him cause I’m a first-time bunny owner and research everything to the ends of the earth lol.

That being said, I’m not 100% sure if the specific dyes in those are harmful to animals/bunnies. You would hope not since they market it for bunnies, but as you probably know stores market a LOT of things for rabbits that actually shouldn’t be used (example: Softwood Sheddings {cedar}).

I personally would return it, but I’ll be looking forward to see if anyone else has any input on these!

They were cheap, and I’m rather lazy to go back and give it to them while they probably won’t bother to take it off of the shelves.  However, I did aim to offer him a small piece to see whether he’d take if; if he did, see how he managed it, pretty anxious since I too am pretty protective over my rabbits and can tumble down to a trainwreck if there’s anything amiss in concerns of their health or overall behavior. He pretty much brushed it off like “no wtf are you trying to give me.” So, his judgement’s an automatic win, none of these for him. Instead, I gave him something better.

Haha, what a sassy boy! I’m glad he made the decision easy on you. And I don’t blame you. Sometimes I feel like I’ll spend more in gas in a trip than just calling it a dud!

Generally, bought treats are full of not very good ingredients. They probably won’t do your bunny harm, but they’re also not very healthy – like the bunny equivalent of McDonalds

When I give my bunnies treats, I either give them:
                – their regular pellets – they only get a very small amount so they’re always excited by them
                – a very small piece of fruit or carrot (a dried apple slice, a strawberry, a grape)
                – fresh herbs
                – dried flowers and forage

These are all healthy and natural treats for your bunny, and they won’t have all the funny ingredients that lots of bought treats have. My bunnies get super excited about all of these things. Plus, they’re cheaper and you don’t have to buy special things (apart from the forage and dried flowers), because you can just give them a tiny nibble of an apple you’re eating, for example

                  Rice, Corn, Sugar, Artificial Color (FD&C Red #40, FD&C Yellow #5, FD&C Blue #1

                  Ingredients ^ ^

No way in hell would I give something like that to my rabbits. It’s not about being overprotective, that ingredient list is shocking. I’d just bin it :-/

Pellets, forage, veggies and herbs make great healthy treats.

To encourage natural behaviour such as chewing: wood toys, willow and apple sticks etc are great.

I don’t feed things like this to Ophelia either. She does not get any processed treats. It’s pretty clear to see the ill health affects of processed foods in humans, so I don’t believe these types of things should be given to animals either.

If you want to give your rabbit some special treats, you could try googling some organic bunny cookie recipes. Pinterest has a ton. You can make little treats out of ground pellets, hay, and some sort of binder such as banana or pumpkin, and throw in some dried herbs for pizzaz. Then you know that they are getting only wholesome ingredients. I want to try to make something like this soon!

I have been curious about my rabbit’s favorite treat-Feista puffs. My rabbit love these, but I don’t get the same ones you get, the ones I get are blue and green, with completely different packaging. I noticed that coloring on these puffs, and read the ingredients as well, which severely alarmed me… So I immediately looked for information on these, also with a question in mind if these are toys, treats, or complete baloney. I found this website, signed up, just to write a reply and get some help…

I got my fiesta puffs at my local PetSmart and have been suspicious for months, but I feel some to my rabbit and he absolutely LOVED it! I kept them in his rabbit drawer (where I put his nail clippers, and other rabbit things) and whenever I opened it he did tricks, stood up, danced around and everything because he thought I was going to give him the fiesta puffs. Even though he seemed to be loving it,being a oddly protective, I-Need-To-Study-On-It-For-Months Rabbit mom™, I need some advice on it from you amazing rabbit owners!

If it helps, my rabbit is a Mini Rex rabbit hybrid.

No… a bunny should not be ingesting artificial colors and sugar in that form. Give him a piece of a banana, or a strawberry, or a baby carrot. Give him an oxbow rewards treat. But not these. They should be eating all natural things.

The breed doesn’t matter. A standard and good bunny diet is the same whether they’re a hotot, flemish giant, or anything in between

Most grocery stores have a variety of freeze dried fruits available in the produce section. I find them to be slightly cheaper than the same freeze dried treats at pet stores.

For example the freeze dried banana has as it’s listed ingredients: Banana. Dawn loves them. Actually, I do too. And she gives me dirty looks when she chins me and smells banana on my breath, as she knows I’ve been sharing in her treats.

OreosMyOneAndOnly: If your fiesta puffs are rice and corn and sugar, they’re not very good for rabbits. But if your bun has had them in the past, I’d not worry. I’d just stop giving them. If they weren’t expensive I’d just chuck them. I read on another forum that hamsters can digest corn, so if you know a hamster owner, you could maybe give them the treats. There are better rabbit treats available, for example freeze dried fruit, like Bladesmith says. I’d stay away from anything that has artificial colorants in them.

I give my Panda and Fernando Oxbow Simple Rewards treats, which are about as good and healthy as processed treats for rabbits get, with the primary ingredient being timothy hay with little bits of the tasty treat mixed in (they particularly favor the apple-banana variety, and Fernando is notoriously finicky about other flavors though Panda eats just about everything). My vet, and my local rabbit rescue, are sufficiently confident in their quality that they both sell them. That being said, I limit them as a general rule to two per day each as “dessert” after meals, and I keep meaning to look into these freeze-dried fruits (I remember from their adoption listing that they both like craisins, so I’ll have to try those sometime). I may also try, of all things, giving them pieces of romaine lettuce as a treat going forward. They absolutely LOVE romaine, so much so that Fernando, naughty bun that he is, will often steal pieces from right out of his mommy Panda’s mouth at suppertime!

Another treat I’d be extremely careful about is oats; I gave them plain rolled oats for a while, which they loved, but they gained too much weight on them so I cut that out of their diets after their last checkup in May. Their next biannual checkup is coming up next Saturday, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that my buns are back to their fighting weight by now! As for Fiesta Puffs and other such things, no. Just no.
