        Hello!

Has anyone ever purchased a felted wool cat cave for their bunny? I’ve found several I love on etsy, but am nervous about spending $70+ on something my little Acorn might not enjoy. He loves woven baskets and cardboard boxes, but would love to add something more aesthetically pleasing (to me!) into Acorn’s living room play area.

        TIA!

Can’t picture it in my head for the life of me but I’d be concerned about your bun digesting any of it!

            Thank you for your reply!

They are a strange concept, but so beautiful!

I’d not really thought about him eating any of it, I was more worried about him being put off by the smell or warmth. I just realized I have some felted woolen dryer balls, so maybe I’d be better off seeing if he nibbles those first!

I found pictures of the felted cat caves on Etsy.  https://www.etsy.com/search?q=felted+cat+cave
Most rabbits prefer hideaways that have two entrances, so I don’t know if a rabbit would be hesitant to get in the cave or not. I’ve seen quilted cloth cat hideaways in pet stores and wondered if my bunnies would like them, but decided that they probably wouldn’t use them, plus I was worried about them chewing on and ingesting the fabric.

Thank you for your reply. Those are just like the ones I’d seen and loved. I also didn’t think about having multiple entrances, oops! Maybe these wouldn’t be the best idea ?

On Facebook yesterday, I saw a post about a rabbit and it was cuddled up in a cat cave. As well as I remember,  it was more like the ones found in pet stores as opposed to the felted wool ones on Etsy, but this rabbit evidently had no hesitation about snuggling into one, so maybe Acorn would like one too. The ones in pet stores are a good bit cheaper than the ones on Etsy. The pet store ones are usually plush or quilted material. I see one at Petco that is on sale for $20.99. It also comes in gray.

That’s not as whimsical or shaped the same as the ones on Etsy, but it or something like it would be cute and different. Although, you certainly don’t want Acorn to chew on them. Most of the ones in stores probably have some kind of fill material in them, so that could make them more dangerous if ingested. If you have any pet supply stores near you, you might want to take a look and see if there are some ones you like.

That’s a great idea! Acorn and I thank you! ?

My two main concerns would be ingestion, and also how washable it was. I have seen some hand made felted cat caves and they do look cosy, I’m just not sure that they’re a good choice for buns.

From what I remember reading, I think they are a hand wash in cold and then reshape kind of deal. The more I think about his eating the wool (and he is a chewer!) the less I want to risk it.

I should think that wool blockages would be quite a large risk if he’s a chewer.
