My bun likes to run around on my bed and dig in the blankets and binky, but often times after she’s done binkying, she’ll hop off my bed and go back to her pen, flicking her back legs as she goes. The only other time she’s flicked at me was when I took her to the vet and when I groomed her for almost an hour (there was A TON of fluff coming off her bum!) Is this maybe another way of her saying that she’s having fun/happy? She’s fairly new to my house (I adopted her just a week ago), could this have something to do with it? Let me know your thoughts please!

I think rabbit behavior needs to be interpreted in context. If she seems happy, I think she’s happy. Some buns thumps when they’re happy and binkying around. It’s like they use their whole repertoire of bunny body language. The evolutionary significance of foot flicking is thought to be kicking up dust into the eyes of a pursuer, and buns certainly do it when they are displeased with you. That doesn’t mean it can’t have other meanings as well. Thumping is primarily a warning signal to other rabbits that are underground – buns can still thump when they’re happy or when they think it’s high time you offer a treat.

Thanks for the info, it does make more sense thinking about it this way!
