Feeling guilt – not bunny related…

Hi, just need to offload this…today my 2 yr old daughter was in the pram at the top of the stairs (about 6 steps).  I had just opened the door and was struggling to get my son’s raincoat off when I heard a crash and saw the pram roll down the stairs and fall on it’s side on the path below.

I screamed and I rushed down.  Luckily the pram had stayed upright going down the stairs and fell to the side at the bottom, so my little girl was scared but not physically hurt.

I feel soooo bad.  I must’ve forgotten to put the pram brakes on…

Thanks for letting me get this off my chest.  I’m too ashamed to tell my husband.

Oh, and while I’m kicking myself, I may as well tell you that the other day I accidently wacked Freddy (the bun) in the side of the head with the fridge door!!  He always hangs around there hoping for food but I didn’t see him.  He was ok and got lots of treats then!

Gosh it happens to us all at some stage … not too worry … your little girl was not hurt and bunny got loads of treats.  I often whack Luey when he is hanging around the fridge … most times I don’t see him as he comes charging up out of no-where.

Oh dear. I don’t even want to THINK of all the boo-boos I’ve done with MY kids! But they are 16 and 18 now, respectively, and they turned out all right. And you know you’ll be checking that brake from now on.
I am so glad your little girl wasn’t hurt. Babies are made of some resilient stuff, thank God!

Luckily my buns don’t get near the fridge…they’d get run down by either my 18 yo son or my hubby as they race to see who gets the last of the ice cream! >_<

Oh don’t beat yourself up!  Things like that happen and next time you’ll be more aware.  The most recent incident here is my husband stepped on Daisy’s ( the cat) tail.  She got under foot and the last inch of her tail is really injured.  This just kills me because it may have to be amputated according to the vet.  I feel so bad for her as she is the princess that has always walked with her tail straight up in the air…now it looks like a tassel!

When we bruise ourselves or have accidents we don’t feel guilty about it, but if it’s someone else we beat ourselves up.

Knowltons, I bet you’re feeling worse than your husband is right now. The cat will still hold her tail up, she just might only get your local FM station instead of HBO.

oh Jyka! it’s okay! i rolled off the changing table when i was a baby b/c my mom turned her back for a second, but i turned out (relatively) okay. most recently i was playing with my son on the floor and i tickled him and he flinched and whacked his head on the table. whoooops.

and a couple weeks ago i was walking and Mead was hopping and she wasn’t quick enough and i kicked her in the butt. she slid about five feet across the kitchen floor. she was mad. but she’s fine.

NO worries!! No sense crying over spilled milk, especially when you spilled in the sink and no clean up necessary (if you catch my weird sense of humour here)

I’ll tell you a funny story…I was three or four and my little brother was just learning to crawl. My mom was home alone as my dad often worked out of town and she had her mother in law visiting and was just super tired. Anyways my brother managed to crawl to the foot of the stairs and fall down the stairs. I promptly started screaming and crying to my mom “YOU KILLED MY BABY BROTHER!!” (he was fine of course…) How’s that for guilt? LOL

my dad slammed my fingers in the car door when i was a kid.  to be fair… we were playing a there-after banned game of chicken with me putting my fingers in the way of the door when he was about to close it & him pretending he was going to close it on my fingers.  he thought we were done playing & i thought the game continued… good thing we were in the hospital parking lot after my sis had a big sliver pryed out of her butt.  haha.

k&k that’s hilarious.  way ta stick it to your mom.  lol.  poor mom’s need to wait 20 odd yrs before they start getting some credit & thanks for all their hard work but they sure do hear about the ‘oopsy’ moments right away huh?

OMG, Beka, I can’t stop laughing, but at the same time thinking ‘Oh poor bunny!’ lolz I’ve got this mental image of foot meeting bunny butt and bunny scooting across the floor with a skidding sound like in a cartoon…heehee….sorry! ~_~;
I can just imagine the indignant look on Mead’s face. Now THERE’S one for the Disapproving Bunny book! ^_^
Hey we’re just lucky our kids (the very young ones) can’t read us the riot act we do to ourselves when we screw up. Of course, they make up for it in their teenage years. >_<

LOL Thanks so much for all your replies. I had a good laugh…and I’m sure I’II see the funny side of the pram incident one day.

The prob with bunnies is that they are so silent…and love to get under your feet. Maybe I’II put a little bell on his fluffy tail…or get him to carrying around a pack of tic tacs or something!

Yeah these little guys truly get under foot. We can’t even really walk in Edson’s room because he is right at our feet and you are right they are so silent!

dont worry we have all been there, i too have hit hopscotch with the fridge door and once sweep stepped on him but it was cute because he nudged him afterwards and looked sad so hopscotch gave him a kiss on the nose.. wish i had filmed it it was one of those pulling at the heartstrings moments

Heh Jyka, when my kids were just learning to walk I cannot tell you how many times I would turn around and knock one of them over.  My wife would always say “Look where you are going!” and I’d reply “But she snuck up on me!”.  At 6′ 3″ I don’t always see what is going on at my feet, and toddlers have this habit of walking right up to you.  They both survived, tho my wife still gives me grief about it.

Let’s see, I fell down the stairs to the basement (landed head-first on the concrete floor). Fell out of the basket of a shopping cart at the store (again, onto my head). My mother tells me one of my cousins deliberately pushed the stroller with ber little brother in it down a small flight of stairs as a child. I’ve got a feeling that such things really aren’t uncommon at all!

On the guardian angel note I’d like to share a story….

My very special grandmother had just passed away and my grandfather found something she’d bought for me, but hadn’t had a chance to give me. It was an angel pin and it had a note “You have a Guardian Angel. Her first name is your middle name ” My middle name is after my grandmothers name. It was such a touching gift and at such an important time. It’s very special to me. I like to think that she is my Guardian Angel for real.

HAHA!!Thanks goodness for Lagomorpheus! I was thinking, boy this is going to be a stupid question cuz I don’t know what a pram is, but Lago asked first. I figured from the ongoing saga sort of what it was, but I wasn’t for sure, for sure….and I’m a chic, so guess I should know that. I just have never heard of “pram” before. Only carriage.

ANYWAY, maybe this will make you feel better:   When I was about 1 1/2 years old (?), I was in one of those “walker” things. My brother was babysitting me and I guess, I decided to use the our stairs for a rollercoaster ride.  My brother said I gave him one of the mischevious looks, like “whatcha gonna do about me now’!”  and  I went bouncing down the stairs.  Typical!   again…anyway,  now at 41, I’ve got this little nifty scar just above my upper lip (barely noticeable) of my infant adventures. It’s a great way to get what I want out of my brother, because I just can just point to upper lip and he melts with guilt. HAHHA. No really, stuff like this just happens. It’s not like you willed it to happen, and it all turned out okay. no worse for wear.

I think the Potter generation has given us quite a few lessons in British slang, plus all those lovely terms JK just made up for the stories. But I have to admit to having a little ‘pocket book’ of Aussie Slang, and some of them are pee-your-pants funny! ^_^

K&K, that is a beautiful story and so many things like that have happened to me I can’t write them all here. But they are meant to remind you that our loved ones never disappear from our hearts.
